The "Einser" by Kallinich Claeys
Thanks to Bruno.M1's post, I discovered Johannes Kallinich and Thibault Claeys, two former A. Lange & Söhne watchmakers who have started their own brand.
Their first watch is called the "Einser", a name derived from the German word "Eins", meaning "first" or "number one", as it marks the beginning of their watchmaking journey.
The watch features a 41 x 11 x 48,5 mm case with a sapphire opening on the case band revealing an innovative power reserve indicator.
The caliber KC001.1 beats at 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz) and is very finely hand finished.
Four different iterations of this watch have been made to date.

Dial designed with the influences of Lee Yuen-Rapati (@onehourwatch) and hand engraved by master engraver Helmut Wagner:
- circular grained outer ring with applied indices, finished with polished chamfers and straight graining on top
- hand-engraved centre inspired by the astronomical heritage of Dresden (“Voyager” star-travel motif)
- hand engraved inner circle with new "warp effect" pattern

I've been paying attention to them since I first saw an interview on Swiss Watch Gang YouTube channel.
Of the various editions, the Hong Kong edition is my favorite due to it's more uniform dial appearance, but my true favorite here is the JK Meisterwerk. It has something about it reminiscent to me of the PLM Richard Lange

I’ve found it very interesting discovering what they do,
but I have mixed feelings.
I don’t really like the lateral PR indicator and even if the movement is very nicely designed and finished, its German style speaks to me less than the traditional Swiss style.
That said, I love their needle seconds hand and the “brutalist” design of the Founders Edition.
The Meisterwerk is definitely VERY reminiscent of a PLM Richard Lange and I personally feel a lack of originality here.
Anyway, interesting and high quality work.

Your point about lacking originality, particularly for the Meisterwerk....
is dead-on. I'm afraid I wouldn't rather have it over a RL. Likewise, I too prefer traditional Swiss finishing. 🙏

BTW, Emmanuel, may I ask what in your view is "a traditional Swiss style"? How would you describe it vs German and French? Thx.
By "traditional Swiss style",
what I have in mind are things like the following:
- bridges made of rhodium plated brass, not German silver,
- côtes de Genève finishing (not frosted finishing),
- use of multiple bridges instead of 3/4 plate,
- non-engraved balance cock, etc.

I do like the PR window on the contrary, makes it look interesting like FB’s.
Actually prefer the new WG version to have some heft and really love the work they do, excited to see what else they can come up in the pipeline.
I had the chance to get one of 22 original pieces but hesitated, of course regretted since.

The two first models were priced very reasonably and definitely understand why you have some regrets.

Like said in my post, the way how they “made” their own CNC system is something I’ll remember forever

Two wonderful and very talented and humble watchmakers.
I was lucky to meet them a few times in the last year and seen there beautiful pieces in person.
Hope to be able to visit there workshop in the near future. Very promising brand and there approach of the watches is very interesting

The KC duo sure look very young, long runway ahead of them 👍🏻.
Love the movement. The dial layering will take time to get used to. Especially the inner circle ring plus the long brand name secured by 2 screws - too much distraction for a simple dial design.
I agree with you concerning the brand name plaque.

My vote for most attractive among them would go to the Hong Kong model.
I agree that the HK model is the most immediately pleasing,
but, at the same time, it isn't as audacious as the others!

I really like these watches from Kallinich Claeys and quite simply think they are stunning.
I also really like the way the power reserve is displayed as it doesn't take any attention away from the dial or movement. I really don't have a favourite as I like all of them.

But I'm personally not sold on all aspects and I find 41 x 11 a bit large for a time only "dress" watch.

Lange produces good protégé
and another talented duo I could think of are Petermann Bedat. We can clearly see Lange's influence across KC001.1, with the exception that the Kallinich Claeys is hand-finished to a much higher level. Credits to them all their watches have been sold and I certainly look forward to their future projects.
