a great opportunity for one to acquire a Dufour as it is impossible to get one in better times.  These watches probably retained its value best.

Although based on some comments one seemed to be questionable.

Cerainly something I never thought I would see.

In my case, I don't need 2, especially with my recent purchase.
As for one of the other owner, he wants a 37mm version.
Then there's another one who maybe a fraud.
But I must say the Duality is yummy....oh mine oh mine....I have to stop.

real collectors and enthusiasts should just count their blessings - in most cases "more sane prices" on what are otherwise fairly ordinary standard production pieces;

and in rare cases the chance to even acquire some special pieces that would otherwise never see the indignity of being offered for sale publically.

It's really as simple as that.

What’s also interesting is to see the shift in the tone of the comments – in October, the seller got “no one sells a Dufour” and "it's a scam"… in December, there are 3 on the market right here and no one seems to object anymore, as this is now pretty much expected... (of course, the quality of the sellers may have changed dramatically and this is what one should pay attention to)...

 

 

 

 

I say that the tone of comment will be probably similar to any other rare watches.
A Series 2 was for sale recently in CM and all is fine because the seller is legitimate.
The comment in October is not because what the seller sells but what he
may not have. I think he even send one of SteveG's photograph to a fellow purist who's interested in buying the watch.
The tone of comment then was purely to make sure he knows we are no fools and also to
warn fellow purists the possibility of scam.
It is as simple as that.
A very good friend of mine who is also a well known collector asked me why won't I place my additional Simplicity for sale in an auction house.
It will raise great profile for the watch and probably make me as a seller, anonmynous.
My answer is simple.
I want to know where the watch goes to and I have no intention to hide my identity.
Never have I post a picture of my watch with the number 'concealed'.
In this process, I may also make a new friend
Internet conversation can hide one identity and intention but I believe a true gentleman action
can be felt and seem through his sincere, honest action.

By selling your watch in CM, you would save quite a hefty seller commission to the auction house and are not restrained by time.

I must say you make a smart decision.

IMO the offering for sale of these watches, or any other watches for that matter, should not be construed as an indication that the sellers are in some way compelled to sell. Watches may be offered for sale for reasons that are usually not obvious to the casual observer and as far as I can tell there is no indication in the listings as to the motivation of the seller(s).

I've been tied up quite a bit since returning from my most recent trip, but I've been thinking about this exact point.

Trying to read motivations or reasons behind something like the simple act of offering a watch for sale is a lot like trying to tell what is in the mind behind someone who smiles back when you smile at them, or someone who doesn't.

There are a million and one possibilities, and not all of them have to do with the actual act itself.

In my opinion, Now is a great time to buy if you are looking for the Dufour 'Grail' watch.  The opportunity to purchase is extremely rare and doesn't present itself very often so now is the time as collectors and true Purists to act ASAP!
