The word "Automatic" on a dial makes little sense. The word just spoils the face. If it is necessary to remind the wearer about the mechanics, surely the words "Hand wind" should be on the dial to remind the wearer so to do regularly!
There were and are far too many words on the Omega Constellation dials that really spoil those watches. Almost like "War and Peace". The words are too small for advertising to anyone but the wearer, so why did it have to happen? Not only Omega but Rolex and others are guilty of unnecessary verbiage.
Perhaps the words on dials are to advertise those watches on stands in shop windows? Surely better to put the details on separate card displays? I object to advertising on carrier bags and see little difference to watch displays that we customers pay for when we buy. We need to campaign much harder with the manufacturer to change their watch dials.
As is sometimes said in aviation's low-flying fraternity, there should be nothing on the dial[s] accept the maker's name!
