Horological Meandering

Thanks for borrowing me your watch Patrick !!

First time I wear a black watch ( PVD)  and I like it. Never had an IWC before on my wrist and never had a Pilot watch before so this is really a new experience.

I like the black case and black dial, the white luminova makes a great contrast. the ref airplane at on ths second hand  (the one for the chronograph) and the red second hand give the watch a little extra.  the saphire glass has some anti reflaction coating which gives the watch a great look.

 

So yes, I like it.

Only 1 thing , maybe I'm to critical but this close up picture from the second hand ...  the second hand looks very cheap and very bad finished. I would accept it on a 350 eur Pilot watch (Archimede for example) but I think a 6K euro IWC should have something better. Don't get me wrong, this is just a little detail and the rest looks great but this is a pitty

damn, forgot about that wonderfull perpetual calendar ...

bee waiting on my 46mm rattrepante forever!... maybe ill just have to settle for the 44mm

If you like it...you will like it more knowing that it's ceramic - not PVD!

If I'm not mistaken this is the 44mm version, without the rattrapante?  For me, it's a better 'fit' than the 46mm because you don't have the rattrapante complication, which makes the 46mm watch heavier and thicker (it's quite tall at 17.8mm vs 15.9mm for the 44m)

Another point, is of course the plane, which you either love or hate.  If they made this watch without the 'top gun theme' at the same price, I believe this model would be sold out for years....similiar to the ceramic pam 292.

and the 3786 (1st ceramic doppel) is not only the 46mm (TG) vs. the 44mm (3786) but also, so I am told, the TG is 'injected' (?) with ceramic or something to that effect--while the 3786 is milled from a solid blank.

They are both 'killler' IWC's but I am with the folks who find the TG emblems.... intrusive.

I'm told the TG badging is not so apparent in real life--sort of like the RolexRolexRolex on the inner ring of Rolexes is not so apparent as it is in pics.

just dont like the name....
