At any given time the quota - never to be exceeded - is "current collection, plus one".

Cheers,

I endeavor to wear my watches often. Preferably, I wear my dress/work watches once a week, and my weekend watches every other week. Anything less and I am hard pressed to justify the amount of capital tied up in the piece. When I previously owned a greater number of watches, certain pieces would go unworn for many weeks at a time. I do not own watches to sit around gathering dust. Rather, I own them to wear them . . . I derive pleasure from wearing my watches. For me personally, wearing a watch ten times a year is not enought to justify the capital investment. I prefer to own fewer watches of superior quality, and wear them more often, so as to maximize my enjoyment.

All the watches which add something to my collection.
Another golden rule: My Banker.
So, 1 and 2 are my watch quota.

Finances is the usual limiting factor.
... lol... I gotta admit that i've been going through the exact dilemma. I realized that having a collection with less watches, but "REAL" watches, was the logically evolution. 1st they get more wrist time, and i end up loving them more and more. 2nd, i don't feel bad for neglecting some nice pieces. 3rd, i am leaving room for the "+1" watch
.... u know that +1 that makes us all go forward in that craziness...lol....
)))
as long as they fit into my current theme(s) then there is no limit. i've been as high as about 300 and as low as 12. i'm currently on 45 with 1 going out and 3 coming in shortly so that will make 47 before i start looking or saving for my next one.
i must add that my wishlist grows quicker than my watch numbers which is a bad sign.
i really do have an addiction problem as i 'got into' local welsh pottery about 3 years ago and before i knew it i had 100 pieces. i'm now going to offload them all at once to a dealer for a pittance just to make space.
its all good fun.

I think 5 is feasible for me though. Only problem is it's difficult to keep firm with my quota, and it doesn't help that selling a watch is a pain in the behind
