Hi there,
I am about to move into my new house in the outskirts of Paris. Lots of work to be done, and I am thinking about how to decorate it I wear a Gerald Genta Arena Bi Retro and mix it with a Perrelet big date. Next one will be either the new Corum "seonde foudroyante" or the UN blue seal.
You wonder why am I telling you this?
Well, I would like to have some horlogical element in the living room that could hang on the wall, be placed on the floor or above the chimney and which would add a cool feature to the house.
What would you be thinking of if someone asked you?

How about a JLC ATMOS clock? They have all kinds of styles and are very cool. Have you visited a Bulgari boutique or AD? They sometimes will sell their dealer wall clocks so maybe you can match your Gerald Genta!

thanks for all your ideas, I had a quick look on the atmos and its really nice and in the style I'm looking at. I will take a closer look on sattler one too and let you know what I think.
Could I assume that since these clocks are not entirely micro engineering like a wristwatch is that would they would be cheaper? What price range are they in?

It would indeed be cool to have an oversize GG . I saw this one wich does share some similarities with the hour disc of the GG
Its no technical wonder but looks nice.

and as for price of the clocks we've mentioned.
we dont really talk price here, but the Atmos varies from an entry level Rolex
and keeps rising dependant on the model. no idea about the
Sattlers.

Absolutely do not get an Atmos clock!
If you are going to to put it on the mantle above your chimney. Please no!!!
However, if you have a nice table or cabinet away from the chimney, then an Atmos clock would be perfect. Really, a quality clock makes good sense and there are many to consider. Erwin Sattler is another good choice.

why no to the chimney Richard?
if its to do with the heat, mines been above a fireplace and multifuel stove for 5 years without missing a beat and if your thinking about losing the look, i put a big mirror behind it. its not the best place for it, but for now its the best i can do.

He was giving an anecdotal story about the few times he's had to send one back for repairs. No scientific explanation but maybe it was the proximity to the actual fire?
Also I remember reading or being told somewhere that Atmos Clocks should be kept away from direct sunlight and avoid exposure to excessive heat or cold. Supposedly they operate best when the room temperature is in the human comfort zone (20 - 30 degrees C).
However it is not Gospel but I would take all precautions with it because they're not inexpensive to replace. Anyway, I don't I have a fireplace at home so I don't really know how hot it gets above a fireplace.

i can see that would...
i can see that would be a problem if you put it
close to the fire, but i'm lucky in that the room is cool most of the time being
solid stone and single storey, between 18-22c, the top of the stove is about a
metre from the underside of the mantle and the majority of heat is pushed away
and out into the room on the few occasions i light the stove. when i finally
sell this pile of stone and buy an apartment i'll put it on a shelf with mirrors
at the back and away from all heat sources.

Modern or Classic, Complicated or Simple, New Design...
There is also another option:
JLC made some very cool table clocks, and here again, sme very different ones, in the Past.

Stay away from fancy clocks - more addictive than watches!
I must have 40-50 and a few chime & strike so I can have audible as well as visual reminders of time-keeping.
The Atmos is nice because you rarely have to reset or adjust it.
You could also (if family permits) add clock/sign combo somewhere. (Citroen Mehari optional, to add a French look)

I have a nice bookshelf for watch books...
I have a nice bookshelf for watch books, watch DVDs, brand brochures, magazines, catalogues, etc.
I've got some signed sketches of watch parts that warrant being framed. I'm past the age of taping posters of sports cars (and other posters) to my walls.
If you've got a nice watch that you don't use much anymore, consider putting it into a nice three-dimensional frame with the watch in the frame. These items are works of art and it's perfectly appropriate to have actual watches framed.
How about an ATMOS clock used as a bookend on a bookshelf. You can always have an ATMOS clock on your fireplace mantle as well.
