I am waiting at another airport lounge and idle thoughts of course turn to horology. I see that interest in the Tenth Anniversary pieces is hotting up. If you could design your perfect anniversary watch, what would it be? Which Manufacture, complications, metal, etc?

...when i read AndrewD's post.  It exemplified a unique and rather pure timepiece.  What more if it is a marine chronometer. Moreover, when it is hand-wound, to me, that allows any Purists to be more "connected" to the wristwatch.  I have always liked enamel dial, and i do agree with a no-date version.  Keep it basic and pure. Print Purists Pro like a Bregeut or stylised cursive across where every brand has their name on the dial and blued steel hands would look lovely.  And for the case diameter, should not be more than 40mm to keep it classic looking.  Use very nice supple croco leather, and the caseback need not be exhibition caseback.  And pls dont use onion crown, cos never a big fan.  My 2 cents suggestion.  Can enamel dial not be creamy white but maybe with a different color? Grey? come to think about it, white creamy enamel dial will suit the heated blue steel hands just fine. and for the hour markers, lay them with white gold, and no luminous material pls.  Can someone who is good with Autocad, or what are they using now, come up with a picture of what i just decribed, thanks.

In my opinion, a Myth is a myth, and this watch, in a certain way is.

Because it was the first and the only one to get the magic combo: a watch released under the kind permission of the Marina Militare Italiana, a brown dial, tritium indexes, and a titanium case.

We shouldn' t touch to a Myth, in my point of view.

They did it, with the 26, the 28, and I don't feel the Pam 36 is an oridinary watch.

What I don't like is when you play on the LE concept, I mean that the 36 was a LE released some 11 years ago.

It is too soon for a Tribute, and even if ithere may be a tribute, it will necessarily not be like the 36, for at least one reason: Tritium is not allowed anymore on watches.

There are much more things to do, if Panerai didn't loose the right to use the MM name, and things which are very close ot their History.

A 4 lines 6152...For example.

I figure that any watch produced for the purpose of celebrating the 10 candles of the PuristPro site would be something special and not necessairly a tribute to one of Panerai's icones. I figure that a limited edition would be open to a more general public and not just members of this marvelous site.

I would expect something tailor made for this 10th year event, but maybe I am wrong and maybe Panerai is not one of the brands producing a special edition to commorate this event. This is pure speculation though.

  maybe something which floats in that circle not a pam 36 clone... however i believe panerai will have trouble using MM from now on... at least thats what i believe after the recent case of 339...

 but wouldnt that be the case with legend diver and polaris?! or they are not myth?

Because the Polaris is a Vintage model, which existed, as well as the Longines, while the Pam 36 is a modern re interpretation of a 6152-1.

So they are not boxing in the same category.

Therefore, the Pam 36 was a LE, while the original Polaris wasn't.

For the same reason, I wouldn't like to see the TTP re edited, it was a once shot, and it has to stay a one shot.

Like the Pam 36.

new design, based on a simple, mechanical, such as a Hamilton 980?
I will be in Lancaster next week ( wife loves Outlet Shopping) and will ask around if someone would care to build one.

I fully agree with you a 10th anniversary commemorative watch would be better. Something made expressly for the PuristPro community.

The Longines Legend Diver became as a friendly Purist watch, and I think it  would be perfect to made a special version for us.

In the same way, the Fifty Fathoms is a watch with lot of fans here (me included). I feel these watches are a bit Purists watches. What about a Milspec or 3-6-9-12 Purist´s Hommage???. Blancpain tributed the No Rad FF... let´s make an amazing and correct Hommage for this icon.

And a base, with Luminor or 1950 PVD case and aged luminova Pam would be perfect too.

Let's hope all these Purists not buying watches doesn't cripple the industry in the meantime.

A

PSM.. simple Piccadilly with old movement.. either enamel or frosted dial...
GO.. either a customised stainless steel Senator Meissen, or stainless steel Senator Chronometre, or simple stainless steel with manual wind (Senator Sixties)

What is the budget for that watch?

I feel the budget will be the most important criteria.

For example, I would love to see a Purist Reverso: enamel dial, superb finish of the movement, white metal case, but how much would it cost?

I fear it will be way too high for many of us.

Therefore, I would hate to fall in the gadget watch.

After thinking about it, and to be honest, it was something which crossed my mind, A RO Diver, for example with Red 1 / 7 / 8...

But wouldn't it be too " gadget looking " for a PPRO Edition?

To avoid this kind of trap, we'd have to start from nothing, or almost, and design it just for us.

Which means a short batch.

Which means a high price.

Which means a risk to see our dear members not being able to afford it.

Food for thought.

1/ Panerai:

47 mm base with the 1950 case.

Or Mare Nostrum 47 or 45 mm.

I don't see Panerai doing a short batch of let's say ... Even 50 watches of these.

Or they will charge it so high that it will discourage everybody except the flippers.

2/ JLC:

Reverso enamel dial.

In a SS case, to reduce the costs, with a solid case back, or with a nicely finished movement.

Here again, the cost of such a watch in a short batch, would be prohibitive, I fear.

3/ Blancpain FF.

Small case, which means 41 or 42 mm maxi, with a TR 900 dial or a milspec one.

Solid case back.

If you have the original price in mind, I fear that, like for the other examples quoted above, the price would be prohibitive.

4/ A special AP...

Let's say, a starwheel just for us.

Do I have to elaborate?

Now, I have a special wish, something which would be an hommage to Mr Macaluso, to what he did for GP...

A special GP, which would correspond to my taste.

40 mm case, white metal, enamel dial, manual wind movement, chronographe rattrapante.

That sounds totally irrealistic, financially and horologically speaking, as this movement doesn't exist at the GP manufacture, and I highly doubt that they will develop it just for us, but hey, it is just a dream!
