Ubik, is your super ocean a ref 2105 from 1969 ??
if that is the case then i've just read something about them which claims there were only 20 of them made as part of the introduction of the chrono-matic.
that makes it a very very nice piece.

I own Nicolas. Yes the time only is beautiful and considerably rarer than this.
Graham, yes this is the 2105. I've read this idea that there were only twenty made, while I would like to believe it, I have seen no evidence to support it.
Having said that it is a rare watch and I've not seen it in any catalogues or advertisments. Interestingly it doesn't feathure in the big 1969 catalogue I have

I don't know the exact date, because this one still has the sale sticker on the back and I can't bring myself to tear it off. Having seen others though it would
appear that 1969 is about right. Several years ago a bunch of these popped up for sale through a US dealer who either bought directly or had access to someone
who bought a lot of NOS Breitlings probably as the company dissolved in the early 1970's. I believe they had about twenty to sell so maybe this is where
the idea came from. When I saw them for sale, I emailed them, then thought about it for a few days. When I called them back they were all gone! Then a friend
of mine in the UK said they had bought three and I was able to buy one from them. Phew.
It is the only version of this large case size that I own and have to say I love it, the only downside is it is NOS. Which makes me scared to wear it too often.

i had a standard chrono-matic from 69 until a few years ago and had never
seen one like yours, but only last night saw another one on the bay.

the story behind all the NOS ones popping up is that when Breitling were
changing hands one of the staff or management effectively took most of the old
stock and put them in safety deposit. they came out a few years ago to much
acclaim. they all needed servicing of course after 20+ years in a bank. i should
have bought one then but i had a chrono-matic, cosmonaute and spatiographe at
the time and didnt want anymore.

no real proof.

as for NOS condition, just get it on the wrist and wear it. watches get
scratched and it adds character.

Benno Richter in his 1995 book on Breitling shows two of these. I don't know the dates of when they came out of the vault,
but I would imagine that the ones in his book pre-date this. Again leading me to believe while very rare, maybe a little more than twenty.

Did you have the big case chrono-matic? Or the smaller case ones? The big case is an original Breitling design and has
a complicated gearing system for rotating the inner slide rule. It was there attempt to make a waterproof watch with a rotating
bezel. It actually pre-dates the chronomatic by a few years, originally appearing around 67/68 I believe in a valjoux powered Navitimer.

This is the same case as mine, they all used the basic same case, so it would have been 48mm.
Weirdly this watch doesn't wear as huge as it seems, I've got pipe cleaner wrists but never feel awkward
wiht it on.
