After some reflection the personal choice was a close run thing: Amanico's JLC MMR (a seamless meeting of haute horlogerie and contemporary design) just edged out by Alex' Laurent Ferrier (a thing of great beauty and subtlety - from an Independent).

Okay, so it's a frivolous question, but don't pretend you haven't thought it! What's YOUR pick???

...the term "swap" implies that I have a watch that could be exchanged!  Somehow I think equal value won't be seen in this thread....

I would take Sidney's DB15 for a day, partly because I want to see if I could actually wear the watch that I love in pictures, and your Observatoire, because a minute or two with it wasn't enough.

If I'm allowed to swap for a day (& I know who'd be getting the better deal!) - it would have to be Gary G's Reverso Minute Repeater - its gorgeous with a fabulous complication in a size that fits me to a tee.

The only problem would be giving it back - think about the scene in Ghost where Whoopi Goldberg's character is giving the cheque to the nuns.

Hey I have so many from all of you guys I wanted to test drive

But top of the list I'll give it to pplater's Observatoire close to home. And I want to swap for a Zeitwerk, I can't believe I did NOT encounter even a single one when I went to Dresden/Glashutte back in September. It was NOT in the boutique and neither was at Lange Uhren!!! One of my disappointments of the trip (not that I was disappointed with the trip to Glashutte at all!)!

AndrewD, next time I see you hopefully I'll have the DB15 out (of the vault) for you to test drive. About time i give it some wrist time.

If it had to be one...I'd like to play with an Urwerk...I think.

a central tourbillon is really the only complication that urges me nowadays.  I just hope when I can finally afford one, it won't turn out to be like a bad one night stand that one regrets for various reasons.

Do you want to be able to tell the time as well? I would.

All this work of art, sculpture etc is nice but if it does not tell time, it ain;t a watch... just me though.

... but I like the fact that the H8 exists and we can discuss the philosophy of time telling behind it. I am reading "Einstein's Dreams" by Alan Lightman at the moment, a book about our various concepts of time and what it would be like to live them. It would be nice to have the H8 on my wrist while contemplating that book!

Lovely as well Art. I prefer the skeletonised version. I just wish it was possible to see the little 'wagon' of the co-axial escapement going around more easily. With the H1 it is all just that bit easier to understand what is happening mechanically.

I assume this photo is courtesy of TM, but it is the only one I have seen showing the obvious combination of the two central tourbies. Magical.

...but having considered it I'd have to say the KV Masterpiece 8 Decimal repeater, owned by a fairly well-known Gentleman Purist and friend who I think would like to remain anonymous on this particular matter...

Now if I knew the owner of the unbelievable KV Masterpiece 7 ("The Seven Daughters of Atlas"), that would be even better!

Doc Bernard's Opus V

does anyone will lent this for 8 hours only, I wont take for a full day.....

I would like to swap one day with this Gentleman, whomever he is.  In particular, I would like to try on the Audemars Piguet pictured in this link.  It is almost a mythical beast, this particular Edward Piguet tourbillon.  I could imagine myself thinking, "Thar she blows!  A hump like a snow-hill!  It is Moby Dick!" when first encountering this piece in the real.  Plus, I like how this Gentleman watermarks his pictures.  It brings to mind the pivotal auction scene in the James Bond film, "Octopussy" during which Bond bids on a Faberge egg that is listed only as, "Property of a Lady."  To see the mysterious watch of which I speak, click here .
