Some time ago my nephew called me and said: "I found from Sweden an interesting Longines parcel. It is 25 years old and all these years it has been in the storage of a watch store. It contains everything and it's not expensive. What shall I do?"
I said: "Buy it, it is that cheap. And then show it to me, if I like it, I'll take it and pay that purchase price to you."
The parcel arrived. In a brown leather briefcase there are some interesting goodies. All papers were there; totally "open".
Hmm... The airplane might be a good reason to buy the watch packet. My next child will be born early next year and perhaps this plane could be the first toy.
In fact I am not sure if this plane would be nice. It seems to be some kind of "collector's item".
The watch is having an officer's case. From the inside of the back cover I can read that the watch is a "replica". Probably I am not interested...
Furthermore, the watch is very big and the dial is somehow messy.
I made up my mind: looking at the movement I noticed that it's not even an ETA but just a historical Londines movement. Probably old stock...
NO WAY! I am not totally crazy. The price my nephew paid is equal the price of one Patek Philippe cuff link. With the price of two such old watches, I can buy a new pair of Patek cuff links!
I will visit Finland tomorrow and take the watch back to him. I guess it's worth nothing because our friend Blomman did not buy it. The watch watch was for sale in Sweden for months and nobody was really interested. I can understand that; after staying for a quarter of a century in the storage, the movement must be in need of service.
Sunday is the day of wise decisions!
Best, Kari
