I am considering adding a second JLC, and an opportunity has presented itself to acquire this watch, black/slate grey on rubber strap. I haven't seen it in person, but the photos are appealing, as is the complexity of the movement. I notice that it has been discontinued. Should I be concerned? Was there a problem with the movement etc.? Is the watch "durable" enough to run with, swim with etc? I also have the opportunity to get the Reverso Gran sport on steel bracelet. I already have the Master Calendar on strap, with the bracelet coming next week, si I kinda like the rubber, as well as having something on the reverso side. Any thoughts would be most appreciated
But I'd avoid practicing any sport with it, as with any mechanical watch. And as for swimming with it, I believe that the WR is 50 meters , so I'd avoid it too! But I didn't have any infos about some issues with the movement. So I'd go for it, if I were you!
Interesting comments. Why would you avoid swimming if it is certified as waterproof to 50m? The best you could get to in a pool is probably 5-6 metres.
I kow, I was amazed myself, but all the guys told me, and JLC and other brands too, that if you want to swim with a watch, you have to choose a minimum of 100 meter WR. When you dive from a swimming pool, the pressure is higher, when you swim, it's the same. When you play golf, or tennis, the chock when you hit the ball is terible as well. So you have to avoid swimming or playing tennis or golf with a mechanical watch.
I presume I am OK to swim in my EWC as it is 100 metres rated and has the screw down compressor crown and pushers. Is that a fair assumption? I swam a lot with my Cartier Chronoscaph (also 100 metres rated) at it was fine.
Would it really be inadviseable to run with the watch, if there is no contact? I see the watch as a hybrid , sort of a smart casual mixed with a dash of sportiness.
I am far from an expert on this movement but from what I had heard anecdotally, the movement is a very complex chrono with retrograde function - groundbreaking at the time. That being said, it is complex and can be a bit delicate from what I understand. I have heard of a number of them being tempermental and that due to the complexity of the movement, the repair time from JLC could be quite lengthy.
Others more educated on this watch may have other thoughts....
That aside, I really like them and they can be had at a great price as they are discontinued.
Thanks for your input. I currently own the Master Calendar SS, and I believe it is the same thickness as the Reverso. I have no problems with that at all. I will be handling it in person this week. If I purchase, I will let you know, and eventually post some pics.
