Since the 21st of November, The Polaris has landed...

Some very happy few were invited to attend to this event we were impatientiently waiting for...

Not only the LE of 768 pieces, which is, as you all know, the faithful re edition of the 1968 model, but a very few batch of the Boutique Edition...

I couldn't resist to the pleasure of sharing with you the very first pics of this Cult Watch...

Congrats to you for getting your hands on this much awaited watch.

Looking at the pictures of waht are, from I understand, final versions of the watches, I am a bit surprised to see that in the end they are unchanged compared to the prototypes shown last year.

On the 1968 model (which is the reproduction of the Polaris design of year 1967!): I thought that they would have changed slightly the dial in order to have a full white circle on the inner minute track, and not one interrupted by the date window.
On the 1965:, I am very surprised to see that they have chosen not to fill the inner hour dots with luminous material.
It doesn't make a lot of sense, functinally speaking, and it is also not consistent from an historic point of view with the true historic polaris nor with any vintage automatic memovoxes (eg compare with your nice black 855).

Appart from that, the 2 watches look good, and these little 'flaws' will help to differienciate them from their ancestors even from some distance !

 

Some answers to your ( as always )very valuable input:

This is actually the replica of the 1968 model, not 67, as the 67 comes with applied numbers ( 6, 9, and 12 ), and the Date Window is circled, too...

So, this is the ' 68 Re Edition...

I agree with you about the date window, it would have been better with a date window more on the right part of the dial, but this is not distrubing me a lot...

As for the ' 65 model , yes, it wuould maybe have been, functionally speaking, better, to have luminous dots....

BUT, as we could see on some great pieces from the past, Functionality was not always respected.

One fo the greatest example: The Deep Sea Alarm:

A Diving Watch, without Turning bezel ( !!!!!!!! ), and not systemically coming with luminous hands ( !!!!! again. LOL).

But I can tell you that wearing these 2 Beauties is really a great pleasure!

(BTW, we can note how the writings on the '1965 reedition' is actually a mix between those of the European and US versions at the time)

 

Rest assured I believe the reedition are nice watches, however I like to highlight the several small difference with the original versions, which make the reedition easily recognisable.

As for the ' 67, I saw one ( official origin ), with applied numbers, painted indexes, and circled date window...

" Yours " is a Lecoultre.

Maybe this explains the difference???

BUT I'm a bit amazed, as I have the production numbers for the Polaris 1967, and there were only...: 9!

I own an original Polaris from '68, unfortunately with an unoriginal strap. Do you know if it will be possible to buy the "Polaris straps" in the JLC boutiques?

Yes, Nicolas. I guess that I'm a Polaristi as well. I have been lurking in the shadows of this forum for quite awhile, but your special occasion has drawn me out ;-) I attended the introduction of the Polaris hommage in the Paris boutique in April. I got to see - and handle - both versions. Wow, that was just amazing. As I will be in Paris for a Master Class next week, I will bring my Polaris and see if the Paris boutique can help me with a better strap than the one I am presently using. Thanks for the input. I will start looking at eBay. I hope I managed to attach a picture of my Polaris - even though I'm using a Mac. Claus
