Nico,
I am extremely happy to learn that you finally received two of your long awaited watches. May you enjoy them in the best of health, and may they bring many happy memories to you and your loved ones.
Un abrazo de parte de tu hermano de la fraternidad Polaris,

Tribute to Polaris 68
.
The Tribute is indeed very tempting, but I think I may be a little late for trying to get a hold of one. Besides, right now I am putting all my effort and attention in bringing my 1968 Polaris back to it's full glory and also I have set my sight on a different type of JLC... A Pam 190. Italian design with swiss ingenuity....Sounds like a match made in heaven, much like a bottle of Nebbiolo with raclette!
Cheers my friend!
Alex
Congrats for your six new crowns Nicolas. But you are a weak man, you couldn't choose between the 1965 and the 1968 modele so you took both ;-)
I was in Basel yesterday, and in one of the JLC AD, there was a JLC exhibition. A fully functional prototype of the 1965 modele was sitting there, waiting for me. At last, I could see it and even wear it. This watch is incredible and the huge plexy is stunning.
I wish I could be weak too, even half as weak as you are would suit me alright ;-)
Amitiées,
Sébastien
It's very complicated for me to choose for one main reason; I haven't had the chance to see a 1968 in real.
However, based on the pictures I have seen, the 1968 model has a major drawback. I don't like the "fake" patina. I considered several times bying a Longine Legend Diver re-edition (BTW, yours is superbe). I tried it 3 to 4 times and this prevented me from bying it.
In my view, it is either an old watch with its own history and patina or this is a new one. For example, I didn't dare to by a vintage Omega SM300, there are to many fakes (BTW, yours is superbe bis). I bought a "new old" watch from a trusted watchmaker with new case, SL dial and hands, only the 565 caliber is from the 60'. Honestly, I happy with it as it is, and would never like to apply a fake patina. It's like pretending being something else that it really is.
In your magnificent quatuor I would be unable to decide between the 1965 reedition and the original 1968 for first place. then the 1968 reedition and last the AMVOX titanium.
Your watch collection is trully magnificent, many thanks for sharing this with us!
Sébastien

Can't wait to pick them up...
I think that this is a beautiful watch - Congrats
I have just pulled the trigger on a 68. I currently live in Oz and it is the only watch that will officially come into the country. Only sad thing is that I have to wait until Feb 09 so your pics are a great inspiration until then.
Also if it not to much trouble I would love to see a wrist shot of the 68 and a side profile.
Thanks
Nicolas,
Wow!!!
You are a scholar and a true gentleman. Thanks so much for the picture it is absolutely stunning. I am really looking forward to you review.
Mark
Thanks so much for the welcome Nicolas much appreciated. As I said in my original post I pulled the trigger on the 68 i.e. I bought it so I now have claim to the only 68 that will be officially brought into Oz . I will hopefully have my hands on it in Feb as this is when it is due to arrive.
Really looking forward to it.
Saty well
Mark
Nicolas,
Just one other quick question for you if I may.
Is it true that only the first 60 watches will have the VINTAGE DIAL BROWN PATINA. If so I will be quite sad because I really like the effect and as mine will likely be a post 60 version it will probably miss out on getting the effect.
Clearly I will still be happy with the watch, but……..
Warm regard
Mark
