E.W.A Tides of Time
Some here wanted to see this special Extrem World Alarm, so I received a call from the Paris JLC Boutique to inform me that it was here for some pics.
That's true that we don't often speak of this model, I mean the current E.W.A.
Maybe because it is a big, thick watch, enhanced by the SS Case, the red touches,n here and there, and the big window on the left part of the dial?
IMO, with the Tides of Time, JLC found the good combo, as they did with the RG Rossi version of this watch.
A noble cause at the service of a nice watch:
As you know, JLC released this watch to make its partnership wih UNESCO more concrete, to give its support to the program of protection of some marine sites.
So, instead of having the traditional 24 Towns of the world on the bezel, we have only 21, and the 3 others are dedicated to 3 sites which require an urgent protection ( written in blue on the bezel: Tubataha, Scandola, and Galapagos ).
Here, the case is in titanium grade 5, which gives a nice light grey color to the watch, and contrasts in a subtle way with the black dial.
Some blue touches, here and there, give life to the dial, and to the whole watch.
The watch is still big ( 46, 3 mm ) and thick, but the overall look makes it more easily wearable.
The water resistance to 100 nmeters will allow his owner to have some water activities without fear, and the Titanium Grade 5 case is also interesting in this case because of its big resistance to scratches.

One interesting thing, IMO, is that JLC replaced the Big Red Crown at 10 for a more discrete black one, which visually minimises or reduces greatly the unbalanced shape of the case.
On the right side of the case, you find the traditional 2 compressor crowns, with the blue arrows, to match with the dial:
And the special case back, with the name of the watch, and more interesting, a view on the quick and easy system to change the strap...
I played with to take these pics, and I can confirm that it is a pleasure to change a strap with such a system.
I just hope that JLC will generalize it to their other sporty watches!
Although big and thick, the titanium makes this watch very comfortable to wear, by the gain in weight.

It is a large watch, but the extra real estate allows the watch to have lots of information without looking crowded IMO. Thanks for the pictures!

...and finally a wrist shot!!! Thanks espcially for that. You are correct that we do not often speak of the EWA, which is a shame. A previous request by me for wrist shots of the EWA yielded nothing, and I suspect that theEWA has taken on the status of a forgotten step child to the EWC since its release followed that of the big brother.
I think the EWA is a great piece. I have even toyed with the idea of trading in my EWC for the EWA, as they share many similarities -- I would lose the chrono function but gain the friendly alarm function. But, no, I think I have decided to head in a different direction for various reasons in the pursuit of an alarm. Still, the EWA is captivating. Could I own both?
The Tides of Time edition is quite nice. I actually like very much the original SS version, although you are right the change to a black crown at 10 o'clock tones the overall watch down a bit. It is funny, but the fin at 10 o'clock to stop and start the alarm function seems tome no more nor less than the fin on the MC Diving Geographic, but I guess in both cases there has been criticism of this case feature. The blue accents are very nice, however, very much like the first diving series. The ability to change straps and, of course, to turn the alarm on and off at will even when it is ringing are wonderful additional features. It took me a while to warm up to the alarm setting apertures at 9 o'clock, but they do seem a very good way to set the alarm.
Is the titanium case really more scratch resistant than the SS or other metals? I had heard on this forum a criticism or two of the titanium as being easily scratchable, which has made me shy away from the titanium cases with the thick bezels as this EWA has.
In any case, I am really glad you posted this. I am not crazy about the Rossi versions of any of the Master Compressors (nothing against Rossi, but the gold and the "46" on these models don't work all that well for me). I hope others will comment on this watch and perhaps share photos of their own EWAs as well.

As you, I think that the EWA is a bit ignored, because of its place in the JLC family.
The EWC, the Alarm watches, and just between, the EWA, which is unique because the association Alarm + World time is a grande premiere!
THE EWC and the Alarm Watches have oth a great success, which risks to be fatal to the EWA.
As you asked, since you have the EWC, and knowing that you are looking for an Alarm, you have many options, as this EWA, or the Pola, the MC Memovox or, the ...Amvox I.
The choice is wide, indeed, and you will have to test them all in the lfesh before finding the answer.
One very good thing on this watch, as on the EWC is the system which allows a quick change of the strap.
That is a real plus to me.
As for the titanium grade 5, it is really more scratch resistant than the SS, which is something on what JLC and all the manufactures should work.
Yes, you can set the Alarm in a more accurate way than on a Polaris or an amvox I.
As for the sound of the Alarm, you have to know that the Caliber 912 ( EWA ) is basically the same than the Cal 956 ( Polaris ), and that the sound of these 2 watches is very close.
The Titanium case gives an higher sound, actually.

My 2 favourites are the RG and this titanium version, indeed, Bretta
The combo titanium / black dial and blue touches is very appealing, to me.
After, this is a matter of taste.
As for the number of pieces in this LE, it is 350, not 300.

I love this watch (although I prefer the original version with the red accents)- the alarm is an excellent function and the strap changing!!!!!!
What can I say. I wish that all watches had this function- JLC please listne and apply it to all sport models and all alarm ones.
Every time I look at pictures, like now, I drool.... but every time I try it on, it simply does not fit my wrist (and I like big watches). Even my AD tells me that it does not fit right.... what to do..... and, you, Nicolas, provoke me.... tch tch tch

More questions...
Is the alarm setting eaisier and more specific on this EWA than it is on the Memovox and Polaris models due to the side disks on the EWA v. the center disk arrow on the other models? Does the EWA alarm sound at the more accurate time than the other alarm watches, i.e. if you set it for 10:15, does it go off at 10:15 rather than several minutes after? Finally, I think there is a discrete indicator located at the 10 o'clock crown that indicates if the alarm is set or not -- is that correct. It looks like it is barely visible in one or two of your photographs. Is that right?

The Alarm on the EWA is less strong than on the MC Memovox, but more crystaline, that is true.
The Caliber is not the same, too.

AFAIK, my friend, Panerai used the 8 Days Manual winding movement from JLC. The alarm comes from another brand, GP who took it from AS. Tim is right. [nt]
