I posted earlier this year a topic about the Amvox 5, which was one of the 2010 novelties.

What I didn't mention was the existence of a Racing version of this new model, the Amvox 5 Racing, or should I use the plurial, as there are 3 Amvox 5 Racing!





To make things easier, here are, for an immediate comparison, 2 pics of the " normal " Amvox 5:

As you can see on the pictures above, the only change, on the Racing Edition is about the color of the dial, which is now white, and the color of the world time ring and of the chrono second hand, orange or blue.

It is always surprising to observe how some new colors can change our perception of a watch.

With the Amvox 2 Racings, no more dark environment, the dial is literally popping, and these new colors add a touch of dynamism and an even greater sportivity.

The orange one is a worldwide limited edition of 100 pieces, while the blue is limited to 24 pieces, and is available at the Paris Boutique, only.

I wasn't able to take pictures of the 3rd Amvox 5 Racing, which is, basically, a Worldwide, but with a black dial, an orange chrono hand and the half of the inner world time ring in white, instead of being orange or blue.

It is also limited to 100 pieces, but it didn't arrive, when I made the photo session.

Which immediately " jumps " to the eyes is that these Amvox 5 Racing take their inspiration from the Amvox II Racing, which had 2 white dials, and these orange touches.

It also shares the strap of the Amvox II Racing, a nice blend of leather and alcantara, very supple and comfortable to wear.

You will notice that the stitching and the inside part of the strap matches with the inner world time bezel and the Chronograph second hand.

The Amvox II Racing Paris Boutique Edition:



The Amvox 5 Racing Paris Boutique Edition:



You will tell me that between the 2 Avmox ( 2 and 5 ) Racing Paris Boutique Editions, the color is not the same, but, if you remember well the first pictures on the JLC Website, the A II RPBE had to come with these blue accents, before it finally became orange...

It is immediately recognizable as a member of the Amvox family, with the open dial, the shape of the hands, the stylized numbers, and the famous operating indication located just above 6 o'clock.

The Amvox 5 ( Racing or not ) is the 2d of this family to receive a ceramic case, the Amvox 3 being the first.

They house the same friendly complications than those displayed by the Master Compressor Extrem World Chronograph, the world time and the chronograph, and they both logically share the same movement, the Cal 752, which has a good autonomy of 65 hours.

But, on the Amvox 5, the case is 44 mm big, and 15, 2 mm high ( 46, 3 mm for the E.W.C )

The Amvox 5, compared to the Amvox 2, gains a complication and a crown ( located at 10 o' clock ), but looses an interesting originality: the lack of chronograph pushers.

Another nice and elegant detail you will notice if you pay attention to the world time inner ring: London has been changed for Gaydon, which is a discrete sign of the collaboration between the " Grande Maison " and the Aston Martin Head Quarter.

Blue?





... Or Orange?





I must say that the true novelty is the one with the blue accents, as we already saw the orange one on the A II RPBE. A ... Blue surprise.

One weird detail, though:

While, on the " World wide " Racing, the pushers receive orange inserts to match with the dial, we don't have the same on the Racing Paris Boutique...

Don't ask me why, it is a fact I can't explain, but I'll ask, for sure!





The Amvox 5 may be considered by the traveler who couldn't wear the bigger EWC, and who was in search of an elegant sport chic tool.

thinking about this one. I would say the Paris edition is my favorite for sure and I think they did not color the pushers blue because it would just be too much blue. This is a Paris exclusive and I think we must make it a little "unique" too.

İ fall ınto that category of lookıng for a world time watch and whıle İ fell for a few of the JLC World Tımers - these really fıt the bıll..... Beautiful dial and colours - AMVOX heritage...... the only other thiıng İ am comparıng ıt to as a WT watch ıs the newısh GP ww.tc in titanium......

I know the GP WWTC very well, as I owned it for several years, and I loved it a lot.

The JLC is in the same vein, but in an even sportier way, in a Racing way.

I love the association of a Chrono and a WT compication, so, yes, I can totaly share your enthusiasm.

They're so beautiful, thanks for the review. I still prefer the Amvox3 for some reason.. I don't know what it is..

Either way I look forward to getting my Amvox3 shipped to Seattle this week. I just need time to get out there to pick it up.

Both the 3 and the 5 share this sporty look, and the ceramic case.

But I'd say that the 3 is more sober, when the 5 is more dynamic.

Difficult to put in words, indeed.

I'd also say that the 3 has the " magic " of a Tourbilon, which is unexpected on a sports watch, but not unpleasant at all.

I can understand your fascination ofr the 3!

I was drooling over the Paris AMVOX 2 that Pinkpanther placed in the CM...

JLC is such an innovative company...

there are so many Amvox models and varieties of models that my mind is reeling. when i get in the position to hunt an Amvox II i'll have to ask you for lots of Advice Nicolas.

i do really like the ceramic cases and the change of London or GMT to Gaydon is a nice touch.

The concept of the pivoting case is so brilliant, so original, that I think that any other Chrono is tasteless, compared to the Amvox.

But this " extremist " point of view is not fair the the A 5, which has its own qualities, and will certainly find its fans.

...in person, so perhaps I cannot yet choose a favorite between the two limited versions you show, but I do love the blue color on the Paris Boutique Edition.  As you know, this is not my favorite Amvox, but the Paris variant is attractive on the wrist.  I have evidence below!

I always like the AMVOX... Especially AMVOX2 & AMVOX 3... I like the way JLC designed such a modern looking timepiece... The dial to me is beautiful... Very modern yet still have a classic sophistication to it...

And I have to say this one looks cool too... I especially like the orange edition...

This surely is a better alternative to the EWC, which I think is too big...

The black case may be tasteful for some of us, too.

And the racing look definitely makes the difference with the EWC.

Especially that the crowns on the EWC are huge...

And I always love watches that is related to motor racing... One thing you didn't know about me is that I first got attracted into watches because of motor racing.. So watches with motor racing theme will always attracts me...

I stopped by the local boutique yesterday to look at these pieces. They had both the orange and blue versions to see.

First, I do like the look of the watch.  The color is not overdone, and does make the pieces interesting.  They are well made as one would expect.

The downsides in my view are a few.  I own the Amvox 2 and the vertical chronograph is the key innovation to me.  It is a shame that it can't work with the World Time function.  Second, I was a bit shocked by the very large increase in price point over the Amvox 2, which I actually think is a better piece.  More than $20K for a non-gold watch seems a strecth.

Like you, I think that the owner of an Amvox II will always have some reserves when seeing that a ater chrono comes back to the traditional pushers.

We love so much the original Amvox II!

But think about the addition of a WT on an Amvox II:

What does characterize the Amvox II?

This is a Chrono with one crown, no pushers.

Would you ike to see a crown or a pusher at 10, for example, on an Amvox II case?

Definitely no, a big no, for me.

Let's dream a bit :

What about a coaxial pusher integrated in the crown of the Amvox II, to set the WT?

Couldn't we use the glass as a WT selector, at 9 and 3 to go backward or forward?

Such solutions are indeed terrific, but would need a big development work, then would expose the Amvox II to a severe increase of its price.

Let's keep in mind that the latest Amvox II price tag was 13 500 Euros.

How far can go the Amvox II price tag?

What would people think?

Now, about the price tag of the Amvox 5:

There is a difference of around 2 000 Euros between the last Amvox II and the Amvox 5.

Which includes a ceramic case, and a WT complication.

Is it too much?

Now I agree with you:  The price of watches is going higher and higher.

Just wanted to know that the Amvox 5 Racing edition in blue is only made for Paris boutique as I have seen one in the Dubai Mall boutique. It's a limited series of 24 pcs worldwide and they have 2 of them.

Yes, it is a LE for the Paris Boutique, but, as for the Amvox II Paris Boutique Edition, some pieces were attributed to a few other Boutiques.

So, it doesn't amaze me that The Dubai Boutique got one or two.
