Jaeger-LeCoultre

When we talk about Jaeger LeCoultre we often think (me included) only about the European market watches…

 

We tend to forget the US market watches!

 

Recently one of our friends here showed us a remarkable collection of LeCoultre watches and shared some good knowledge about the American part of the brand!

For a long time I avoided LeCoultre watches because in my thinking they were “not real” Jaeger LeCoultre…

 

Well not completely, this one I picked up many years ago…

Luckily we learn, we change…

 

And so did my approach to LeCoultre watches.

 

Last year I picked up these two… You know them by now!

 

Deep Sea Alarm E 857 and Polaris E 859 (sorry Vlad, please don’t look )

 

 

 

 

This year the Reverso celebrate its 80th anniversary so we anticipate some nice things for us to drool over…!

 

 

But back in 1958 JLC was celebrating 125 years anniversary with a Jubilee collection.

 

 

Among them the Geophysic and the Memovox Parking…

 

 

But also some interesting clocks.

 

Like the Alarm-Thermometer-Barometer clock:

 

 

 

To give you a feel of how big (small) the clock is.

 

 

Maybe LeCoultre is not that bad after all..?!

Funnily, I found the Ref 69 ( Alarm ) some months ago, but still at the spa...

But I'm still onn the hunt for the Ref 70!

As to answer your question, there are models which don't disturb me to be LeCoultre watches: The Polaris and the DSA, for example, as there is no difference in quality between them.

On others I prefer Jaeger LeCpoultre watches, like the Powerwind, or the Future Matic, because there was a substantial difference between the European and American models ( size, and metal used, for example ).

They are very charming these small clocks!

 

 

I agree with you that some on of the models I still prefer JCL instead of LC.

 

But my general thought of LC has changed a lot!

 

What I don’t like is all the gold plated versions that tend to be used in the LeCoultre line.

 

If gold, I rather see solid gold.

 

Of course more expensive… But still.

Exactly the same for me.

As for the Ref 69, yes, I was lucky enough to find one, now I just have to keep my fingers crossed to see it completely serviced...

It is a member of the Jubilé Family, after all, like your Ref 70!

Hey!
I just bought a 70 at and antique store in Katy, Texas in perfect condition! I keeps excellent time and I absolutely love this little time piece. I would like to know the age of it thought. I assume it is probably from the 1940's .  I paid $40.00 in USA dollars. Would that be a good price?

Yes, I thought it was a good price and I like the fact that it's small and all mechanical. I like mechanical clocks and have always wanted a nice desk clock, with a barometer and thermometer.
This is a beautiful timepiece and I am just trying to find out the age. I can get some internet results and the closest I can get to the age of this is that it was manufactured between 1936 and 1985.

... to me, initially, i also had the same mental difficulty in accepting American version of JLC... when collecting, tried not to touch them... but somehow after reading more and more, found actually LC or JLC have no difference!

after all, i have several LC dial vintage watches... in fact, because of having these LC dial watches, it made my collection more fun because as you also know that all LC dials are designed quite differently those for non-European markets.

i think apart from LC and JLC dials watches, there is also another line named "Jeager" which was made for France market only. think it is also very interesting as a JLC vintage watch collector. The great example was the diver posted by Nico days ago.

And frankly I still have problem with the Jaeger definition.

 

Jaeger=Clocks in US, but watches in France..?!
