Hello all

Well I got my Master Compressor Geographic.  The watch is great but geez, the actual watch purchase was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. 

Have you ever opened up a watch box and found the wrong watch in it?  I have!  My JLC turned into a H.Moser & Cie white gold piece much to my horror.  Turns out the seller mixed up two different boxes.. sent my JLC to Rome and the Roman Moser to Australia.

So the mix up got sorted out and then my JLC finally arrived.  Only for me to find my 'near mint' JLC with a deep dent in the bezel and filthy!  Apparently tho, when buying a used watch its ok to  not fully describe the condition.. afterall I am buying a used watch! The seller then told several lies/contradictions and it was all rather infuriating. 

I did have the option of sending it back for a refund but chose to keep the watch. After all that happened I didn't fully trust him not to blame me for damage and then not fully refund me.

So  I'll be getting it cleaned up, get the bezel polished lightly and a new strap.  Other than all this, WOW the movement is spectacular, it's super comfy and really is a lovely lovely watch!

Hopefully the poor buying experience wont impact how I feel about the watch - time will tell.

so sorry you had to go trough this, Amanda. It's too bad people are not completely forthright regarding these transactions. As I said on another forum regarding my own pending transaction, there are seemingly more "flakes" around these days and it makes selling/buying high-end watches on these sites riskier than in the past.

Blaming a shipping company for damaged goods can be very difficult. If you're dissatisfied contact the company and see what your options are. Then again, if you still want the watch, check out your AD and see how much it would cost to make the watch new again. It's a sweet watch--I hope it works out the way you want.

You are correct its a gorgeous watch. The case is in great condition and doesn't need anything.. only the bezel is marked in quite a few places.  It looks like it needs the bezel popped off, and a good clean.. bezel polished.  I have thought about replacing the bezel but no idea what one costs.  If its like under $200 I'd consider it.. but more than that, I'd rather buy a ABP strap I think

At the end of the day, when buying a watch you want to KNOW the exact condition prior to purchase.. so you can make an informed decision to buy a watch with dents etc  not get a surprise when it arrives.  Id' have probably bought the watch anyways.. but I'd like to make that decision myself. 

I'm in no hurry to buy another watch let me tell you!

...what an awesome watch!!  I love that MC Geo -- it was the first JLC with which I fell in love some years ago.  It's fantastic!  And yours looks great notwithstanding the marks you can see o it.  And on teh bright side, now you don't have to worry about putting the first marks on it yourself. 

I have yo enjoy this JLC for many years.  Congratulations!

Thanks respo.  I think a light clean up, a new strap will make it all mine and will wash away the negative experience

Yes I've got the emails about the GTG, unfortunately I won't be able to make it.  I'm still recovering and not mobile enough yet to negotiate an outing!!  I'd love to come tho.  I'll deffo make the next one.

one of the first JLCs that really drew me in--just love the dial layout. wear it in the best of health

P.S.--a Moser Cie in white gold? I would have been hard pressed to return that! LOL

I didn't care much for the Moser.. it wasn't a Master Compressor Geographic therefore I wasn't interested in it! I only had eyes for the JLC

Now that you finally got YOUR watch, enjoy it, time will help you to forget all these issues which will disappear with the dent on the bezel.

Congratulations on your first JLC... It may well be the first of a long series!

I bought a VC years ago... and the seller out and out lied about the condition! And I paid a maximum premium... for rarity... It still bugs me to this day.. but... life goes on... well here is my ADVICE:

ALWAYS ask in hyper-detail about the condition of the case, dial, and all functions, and put it all in writing: it is never enough for a seller to say, 'watch is in excellent condition'. Each detail that is important to you, must be gone over, such as "Is there ANY mark AT ALL on the watch whatsoever?" is a GREAT question. We are not always looking for watches in 100% condition, BUT a question like that forces a detailed reply... Then I ask about the functions, in an equally detailed manner.... etc, etc... unfortunately, we HAVE to do this, unless we know the seller.

Well, congratulations! Enjoy your fantastic JLC-=-and know that a trip to the JLC Spa will erase all traces of any 'baggage' that came with the watch....
