Audemars Piguet SIHH 2017: Royal Oak Extra-Thin 15202 yellow gold
Friends, I am very excited to have permission to share the first new SIHH 2017 model from Audemars Piguet, the yellow gold Extra-Thin!
As we know, Audemars Piguet has placed a renewed emphasis on the use of yellow gold in its collections. And now, 40 years after the 39mm Royal Oak was first offered in yellow gold, AP has brought back the material for this special "Jumbo". The watch will be offered in classic blue or vintage-inspired champagne dials. In either dial, the retail cost will be $55,400.

Sensational. AP has done a great job. I am still in love with the old AP at 6 but....

Blue on gold, always a winner. But the vintage-champagne is intriguing...
I am not impressed yet.
Hopefully we will get something new. RO or Nautilus: in my mind changing from steel to gold when a sport watch is concerned, means always downgrading.
On a sports watch steel is a superior material compared to gold and platinum.

As we consider this precious metal 15202, I am struck with the idea that this dial would look good in any case material. But like you, I prefer sports watches in steel, or titanium. I consider the 15202 a very refined sports watch though, and feel it looks good in gold.

I am not usually a fan of all gold watches, particularly when in yellow
but the blue dial looks really nice and the finish is amazing in the photo. My concern remains how easily it will get scratched and dented. I don't think I will be able to wear it with confidence, even if I could afford it.
Definitely a very classic execution of an iconic watch.
I believe it will wear just fine

But, of course, when you have a such iconic and bestseller timepiece creativity is, may be, limited and difficult to manage.

Well, I don't view it like that myself.
The 15202 reference is produced in very low quantities. For those who like the yellow gold, I feel it is a great option to have.

AP has always been careful with the treatment of this model.
Tantalum has been used here and there. Imagine an LE version in full tantalum case and bracelet... it would be an instant sellout. I credit AP to resist the urge.
Why? It could be a wonderful one-shot for this specific model. May be one day

I meant the credit in a general sense...
As in, good for AP for not pimping out this reference with countless material and dial choices. Now, I think this reference is perfect for an LE run - and think of how we mostly dislike limited editions. A 500 piece run of an all tantalum version? I would be posting something for sale to help pay for one ;-)
The champagne dial is spectacular. The blue dial offers more contrast, though.

I tend to prefer rose / pink gold to yellow gold in most cases, but on this venerable timepiece, I love the YG.
Didn't they introduce a yellow gold version last year?
With a green dial? Looks great but I still prefer the rg version.

with that green dial. Hour Glass, if I recall.

That champagne dial +1. For the disappointed, look at the bright side - they
stuck to the DNA. Any tweaking here/there (balance, screws, decoration, rotor, bracelet) wud have meant a tougher decision making.
