Audemars Piguet

I thought I would share my latest acquisition, a 14802. It is inbound and I should have it in hand next week.

I was desperately seeking an A Series 5402, but wasn't having any luck finding one in the right condition. I could have gotten a brand new 15202, but feel that the Jubilee is a bit more special, being limited to 1,000 watches in stainless, I believe.

I previously had a C Series in gold/stainless. I actually loved the watch but stupidly traded it away 7 or 8 years ago for a Breguet alarm watch. I've been thinking about getting a Jumbo ever since, and am proud to be the new owner of this one! This one is a "full set," coming with box and papers. I am looking forward to this one. It is definitely a keeper (unless, of course, a new old stock 5402 pops up)!

Hello all,

I'm new to these forums and relatively new to the watch world. I'm looking to learn all I can and am in the market for an AP. Where do you guys look for these pieces? Obviously eBay has a lot of listings, but I'm sure there are plenty of collector websites that I'm unaware of. Could anyone recommend a few places I ought to check out?

saw this one also, it is complete which is quite rare.
Funny enough, your dial is a dial you can find on 15002 with the upper case for the A and the P and a larger sized police. I don't know how if Audemars used 2 type of dials for the Jubilee but it looks like.
Here's a picture of mine, there's no uper case for the A and the P and the size of the characters is smaller.

My 15002 is from 1995, and the dial is similar to the one on the RO Robert is getting.  As the Jubilee and the 15002 were produced with some overlap, it is quite possible that the dial might have changed in this slight way for the latter Jubilees.  I love these small variations that add to the mystery of the Royal Oak.

I really appreciate all of the heartfelt congratulations.

Nico knows I have been searching for a nice one for several months. He has also been my adviser, telling me which ones to stay away from which, until this one, was every example I came across. Most of the examples I passed on were in Italy and one in Belgium. Nico's all-seeing eye turned out to be a great help to me. If I had purchased one of those, he told me I would be spending around $7,000 or so with AP to bring them up to snuff, and that was assuming they even had the parts, which is an uncertainty as well!

One of you made a comment regarding the AP logo on the 14802 I bought. Can anyone else chime in on the issue he raised?

I do not say it is a big deal, but clearly your dial is different from mine and different from all the 14802 I've ever seen. But it is not an issue at all, I guess AP has used two types of dials but I didn't know it. Your dial is also used later on on the 15002 series. Don't fall into Rolex kind of dials headaches. Maybe yours is a late 14802, I've read on the seller website that it was sold in 1995 which is late for a 14802.

It appears the top of the bezel has a brushed finish while the side of the bezel appears to be more polished. Is this the case?

Yes, I am quite taken with the salmon dial of the Jubilee -- and I also really like the all-gold Jubilee.  I would love to find either of those as a nice companion to my RO.  Just dreamin'.
