just a short information:
i saw a report about 5402 in italien forum - it is a subsumption from a lot of different things, we can find in internet.
I can not read italien - so i can not judge the facts generelly.
Only thing i see - without italien language - is, that the the facts about the crown are - in my opinion - wrong.
The 5402 have had no AP -signed crown in no series at no time.
A, B, C and D-series all had (once - only perhabs changed to signed crowns by revision) the unsigned crown
(not AP-signet untill some number in C-series and D, like it is shown in this report).
I had three late D-series in my hands - all had original unsigned crowns!
Same applys for hands: All series - also D-series - had small hands.

I have a 5402 B series from 1975/76 bought brand new in Geneva by my step father in 1976 and the crown is signed, it went for a total overhaul to AP Le Brassus in 2010 and all was confirmed as original!!!
I am a little confused!
Kind regards. Francois
a signed crown is also "original" - and specially in AP´s eyes, because if AP (or a authorizised
dealer/watchmaker makes a revision at any time they change the crown at this modell.
The reason is, that in the crown there is the blanket (or what it is called in english - i
don´t know really at that moment) - to make it waterproof) integrated.
From one moment on (i don´t know wich year it was), AP only uses the crowns with
AP-Logo, because the unsigned crowns had been finished.
I assume that your watch in the 35 years before the revision sometimes was checked
(or perhabs revisioned) and for waterproot reason the crown was changed at a time the unsignet crowns
had been finished.
So - don´t think about this little (very little !) detail. It is not really importaht and in 2010
AP - it is shure, that they made this - in any cse they put a new crown on it (otherwise
they give you no guarantee).
There are some "crazy" (in a positiv meaning) people, who change the crown back or
order AP or a watchmaker definatly to do this, because it is there own wish.
Have fun with your 5402 !

that means, that everyone should ask, who send his 5402 to revision, if it is possible to put a unsigned
crown on the watch (if possible).
Perhabs they found a box with crowns somewhere back in a rack in switzerland.
Thanks for information
Stephan
I have just check the invoice from Audemars Piguet dated April 2010 and yes, they do mention replacement of "crown, water-resistant, stainless steel, AP symbol". I think however that they should have given the "original" back to me!!!!! I'll ask them, but would it be of any use? to the watch I mean.
Snif, snif......
Kind regards, Francois
you can tell them,
that i have myself D-series with unsignet crown (and i saw much more!)

also there can be found pictures in german magazin Armbanduhren 4/2004 (also from opened D-series watch !)
The way you communicate in both forum (orologi passioni and here) for me - really - it is ok in any way.
But sometimes i think it would be better that some people in italien forum are looking around a little bit
in europe and all over the world. There is a lot of knowledge, but some people think the communication in italy in
only in italien language is enough.
You do right to look over italien border. For me it also was not easy after 30 years from school english away to
communicate here about special things. In orologi passioni it is / was sometimes difficult. But if people
talk about a watch that existe 4500 pieces, that are distributed all over the world it is necesarry to talk with
the world. Not everyone at orologi think so.
A few month before no one there really could talk about D-series. But sometimes they are fast to tell
others that they are wrong (even members that have no knowledge). This comment is not against you - ciaca
So you have to do your best - hope for you - everyone likes it there and interesting to see / hear what they answer you
about D-series inner case number system (my actual other Thread here and your communication) - at the moment they
gave still no answer to your point.

we speak in direct way (and can do this in english) Thanks for PM (i answered you).
It would be great to see your Guide about 5402 in english.
Without understanding italien everyone can see that it is a really good assumption
with a high bandwidth.
This could be a international base / groundwork.
Next time i am not online (i wrote you) - but i am shure you´re Guide will be a succes
and we can add some facts and make some other facts more clear for all of us.
