I believe it to be all original and I wanted to see if anyone can shed some light on the correct crown and crystal needed.
Thanks in advance,
Kurt.

A warm welcome to the forum!
Your watch seems to be all orignal and authentic including dial and crown!
It is the original crown which was used on this reference 2318 in the beginning of the 40ies!
Tell us some more about this watch please.
Enjoy this nice vintage beauty!
kind regards
Erich
Erich,
Thanks for the reply. I am awaiting it's return from a frien in Illinois. As you can see inside the caseback, very few hands have touched this one. I am glad to hear that the crown is indeed original. I don't believe the crystal is and I will need to find the correct one.
More pics after a trip to my watchmaker's spa......
as for the crystal, it will be plexiglass without a doubt and if the one on it fits nicely then best leave it as it is. it can be polished to new condition or you can replace it. both very simple things to do, but no need to replace it if it fits.
these can be highly accurate. a friend of mine who is a lurking member, has one from 1944 which is about 1 sec a day fast. it is his daily wearer and has been so for a couple of years without fault.
a very sensible vintage purchase.
Graham
I will give it a good polish. it just seems a bit squarish and tall.
Regards,
Kurt.
The dial is still in good shape and a contemporary (bell-shaped) crown.
Only the hand for the seconds (pointer / indicator) seems to be too short for this large type subdial (clipped or superseded in the past?). If you manage to find and fit a larger one, the watch will look even better.
Succes and enjoy ! Ben.
hmmmm, I never noticed before. Perhaps this caused the circular track inside the sub-second area (perhaps the hand was bent and a watchmaker removed the bent piece and it got turned down).
Any idea how hard it would be to find a replacement and where to look?
Thanks for the info,
Kurt.
should be capable to perform this satisfactorily.
Ultimately you could send the watch to the mother-factory in Switzerland, but then costs would outweigh cosmetical improvement many times.
Finally, have a look-out for a cheap non-working model in order to cannibalize for parts.
ciao, Ben.
I have been collecting watches for over 20 years. I currently have a few vintage and some modern pieces. My collection now totals 20 watches. Some auto's , some manual, some quartz.
Here is a small sample :

I use Polywatch on my acrylic crystals but toothpaste does work in a pinch(never use Gel style......very abrasive:-( )
The crystal will do for now, but I will get it replaced with a lower profiled one eventually.
I also agree that a watch can only be original once....and it seems that this one retains it's originality......and shall continue to be.
Just as this Wittnauer has never been serviced or re-finished.....other than a new crystal.
Regards,
Kurt.
