Omega

I attach a close picture of the crown of an early Speedmaster showing the usual Omega logo but with a three-armed cross within.
I would be very grateful for any information about the meaning and significance of such an added sign.

Hi,

I have seen them on vintage Railmasters... " Naiad" waterproof crowns...

They increase sealing with increasing pressure...

This is what I recall from the back of my brain... but I stand to be corrected...

Hi Erich, do you mean Seamaster? Mmmmmh this do not really help at mine is a Speedmaster...
Do you mean that early Seamaster, Railmaster and Speedmaster all had Naiad type crowns?

I have now heard that this extra logo might be a distinctive sign of omega sport watches exported to central and south America in the early 60's.
Does anyone know more about this?

correct, this signifies a Naiad crown

I am slightly puzzled by the fact that we do not see more often. I know that crowns are often replaced. Maybe they Omega only produced Naiad cown with this logo for a very short period?

 

But on a Speedy...?? Must be a replacement surely...?

You have to question the thinking behind fitting a pressure/depth responsive crown to a watch that had such limited depth capability though...?
