Hi Ruckdee, I own the previous non inhouse version of the sea master the 2500 calibre with the 2892 A2 ETA ebouche fitted with the coaxial escapement.I own the last version before the watches were fitted with the in house calibre 8500.

...your PO is a 2500 or a 8500. If yours were a 8500, then you already have that novelty on your wrist and I may suggest getting the 1861 Speedmaster just so you will have an Omega from an older time also. But as your PO is a 2500, I think it wouldn't hurt for you to own a newer Omega model in any case.

It's a tough call. But fitness to wearing habit and value for money rank higher for me than historical connection. If a watch checks all those boxes then it's even better.

One thing to keep in mind. Newer Omega chronographs are likely going to get the 9300 movement. By buying the 1861 now, your future Omega chronographs (e.g. Planet Ocean Chronograph or De Ville Chronograph) will have the 9300 in it anyway and you will end up with different movements for all these watches and zero redundancy. I hope I am not over-analyzing this. Good luck!

I picked up a Speedy 9300 about a week and a half ago.  There is a looooong post on HOrologicalMEanderings about the purchase decision (Datejust II, Spitfire and Senator Seventies were all in the running).

I have been trying to find the time for a follow-up post with some detail here in the Omega forum.  Still trying.

The short version is that I am extremely pleased with the watch and can scarcely find anything I would change, save for a sophisticated micro-adjustment mechanism for the bracelet.

If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them.

Thanks Roger! I appreciate the info, I checked out horological meandering post and funny enough I was considering the SS Rolex Datejust 2 with the white dial as well! After seeing the additional pics you posted looks like I am swayed towards the speedy that much more. It just seems like Omega is so much more watch for the money, I live in Canada and EVERYTHING, including timepieces are marked up significantly here.

As a fellow Canuck, I more than understand. Good luck with your search. I'm presently considering a nice vintage Rolex piece to go along with the Speedy.

Big Daddy is interested in it and one review gave it a rating of 91/100 which is pretty unheard of. the original moonwatch is the icon, but the 9300 is probably an easier watch to live with as you never need to wind it. its got a great balanced dial with the date in a good place.

i dont do new watches, but if i did i would probably be getting one. that is a very high recommendation coming from me.

I almost never buy modern but I have this one.  It's that nice.

Thanks for posting the pic, its a great looking piece! I had a chance to try one on just the other day and hopefully it will be the next addition to my ever growing watch family.
