when first we practice to deceive (said Sir Walter Scott in 1806 Scotland)

I went for a walk alone today as my wife had gone to a luncheon, and as I am inclined to do ... I got distracted and spent most of the time peering into hedges and inspecting spider webs.

This web is not tangled at all, but quite geometric.

As is this one, located 50 yards away. It can't have been the same spider ... perhaps the same species? Or members of the same club?

Here is the traditional "tangled web"
