Long time Maui Jim fan but but wasn't happy with my last pair so switched it up
The classic Maui Jim GLASS lenses are amazing, the glass rose is the best lens I've ever worn, but have been less impressed with the plastic lenses and new flash /mirror coatings so no Maui Jim in the rotation ATM, trying out some new hardware:

Salt x Aether Polarized and Photochromic. Best sunglasses I've ever owned.
Dior freebies. Lenses are very meh but the (guilloche 😉) frames are surprisingly nice if you can ignore the silly CD logo, LVMH has been investing in their optics suppliers the last few years. I can't recommend anyone actual spend money to buy these anywhere close to MSRP but they are nicer than I expected.

I agree about the original glasses in Mauis are excellent. These ones are the best I ever had. I can look out at the ocean / water all day and not get tired in my eyes. But they are costly compared to the newer Mauis with plastic.

Yes, agreed! I used to live by the water and so I never went outside without Maui Jims - 365 days a year. Tried and lost many sunglasses, nothing beats those lenses, even lost a pair overboard once, grabbed some goggles and pulled them off the bottom because there wasn't a dealer on the island and I didn't want to be without them. Now in the shaded streets of the city, lens precision / performance isn't as important as it used to be but eventually I'll need to get another pair before they stop making glass lenses all together. The one thing I'm enjoying outside of MJ is the frame options, I always felt like MJ frames were good but not great, just chassis for the lenses which are the stars. I'm finding that I'm keeping frames a lot longer these days, just getting new lenses, and the MJ frames haven't lasted....
Like many companies they try to cut costs in the production I guess.
Ha ha I’ve lost a good pair too. When water skiing. Tried to dive after them when they fell off, but couldn’t with the vest on 🤣

Like watches, I tend to be a snob when it comes to eyewear, especially since I need them to see! I see eyewear manufacturers that are dedicated to handmade eyewear!
