Turned 91 years old a couple of days ago.
The only person who managed to create and define genuine style in the 20th century in my opinion. I recall him stating once that he didn't consider himself a designer, but simply a businessperson who sold clothes.... My favorite citations of his are in the image at the end.... π₯
When it comes to Lauren, I somehow always perceived his women's lines as more appealing than his menswear designs. They were mostly too preppy for my taste....
I simply preferred Armani for his softer, more minimalist and 'unstructured' lines. The mainstream lines from Lauren were too preppy for my taste, but as you and CdM pointed out above, he certainly had/has the more specialized 'high-end' offerings to differentiate to some extent....
And varying levels of finishing there are many very fine bespoke made to measure tailoring ateliers worldwide and then the Big Brands Brioni, Zegna, Kiton, Corneliani etc. I am sure the parallels with our watch hobby is self evident ππ
Big Fashion Brands like Armani, Gucci, D&G cater to a different segment.
