Today we went to Balboa Park, home of the San Diego Zoo, the Auto Museum, the Air & Space Museum and many other great things. Our (*&*&^% City Council has installed parking meters after a century of free parking, and visitors have dropped 20-40% depending on which institution you talk to and how desperate they are to get the policy rescinded.
We drove through the "graveyard" that used to be full of folks strolling around, and went way across to the eastern edge of the park, where no meters are in sight. We walked the blue line on this map.
Where a civic pool is available, the tennis courts are full,
the young at heart are in the playground, the firemen are exercising, hikers hiking, dogs scampering about, etc.

No one on the velodrome at the moment, although we did see a couple guys in there.

Athletic fields vacant.

Plenty of swanky cars are here at the tennis courts, NOT over on the museum and zoo side.

The firemen I mentioned earlier, getting some vitamin D and exercise.
We walked the trails (marked on the sign) and saw only 3-4 people; avoided the cactus,

Nice view towards downtown, Bridge, Coronado and in the distance the Coronado islands in Mexico

We did NOT sprain an ankle here as we were VERY careful on the descent.

One of 3 people we saw on the trail. If I was a single woman I don't think I would be hiking this alone, for many reasons.
Anyway, no harm befell us or anyone we saw. No meters were paid. And no harm done to my totally inappropriate, over-the-top watch for this adventure.
