Living history.
During my recent visit to Budapest, while walking around the parliament building I stumbled upon this building with hundreds of bullet marks that date back to the 1956 revolution.

Indeed, I have seen such examples myself in Budapest. It always stops me in my tracks.

You will have that in many places in the Balkans, unfortunately, including Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia (possibly Kosovo but haven’t been) but also Romania.
Not quite sure that this is good on balance, as it often gets societies to focus a lot on the past and move forward less 🤷🏻♂️ But it’s of course the choice of every society to decide how they deal with their past…
