This past Saturday, before meeting Art to drive into Bev. Hills to pick up his new watch and visit a couple other watch stores (don't want to trump Art for the watch pix - he was working so hard), I spent the AM doing another passion, attending car shows.

The Primer Nationals are held in Ventura, CA every year. This is the second year I've attended, despite knowing some of the participants locally for years.

This, to me is the epitome of American car culture. Anyone can buy a car off the floor and drive it, but it's a special breed that can take a car and turns it into something wild. These guys, for the most part, are working class Joes who spend their last cent to get their car right.
Gotta love it. All cars and bikes here are pre 1970 and American.

Fun to post especially for you overseas folks who want to see the superb examples of the lowrider and custom hotrod genre -right from the source! Me, I own vintage Renault and Morris, so go figure...

Lots of cool cars, hot rods, and bikes, thanks for sharing!  It's always interesting to see pin striping by hand, truly an art form.

The Beach Boys had a point, methinks . . .

They have rolling carts that they pull around the show. Wish I'd taken a pic of one of them- it was a miniature vintage teardrop trailer (a la Airstream).

I think I've posted this sentiment before; although I am mainly into little European cars, I have been to many hotrod/custom shows just to appreciate the craftsmanship, car and thought that goes into them. As you wrote, anyone can buy a car and just drive it, these guys spend hours and hours working out how to hide the wiring/hoses in the engine bay, handbeat and match fenders and work out unique solutions. I'd never drive one, but I know why people love them.

Lots of cars!

Nice pictures of nice cars in nice weather... It's been raining up here in Northern California too often! My car has never been so dirty!

...where are my beloved Snakmobiles?    Great pix!  It was fun hanging out on Saturday!

The snakmobiles weren't allowed to this event (not American cars) :-(

I will, however, be sneaking the Renault into the Citroen Rendezvous being held here in Ventura in July.

Are spares still available or do they have to be fabricated based on the original blueprints?

I'm sure original parts for the cars these were based on exist, but when it comes to the complete reshaping, lowering, or extending of body panels, this is all hand hewn sheet metal work.
