Wedding anniversary: suggestions for dinner Saturday night in Orange County
Hi Purists gents and gals!
I know it's late, but any suggestions for a Saturday dinner locale?
We like French cuisine, seafood, Japanese but open to other cuisines naturally. We just like good food! We have young kids who won't be accompanying us so we would like to take advantage of the ability to eat at a nice restaurant... You know. The ones in yelp under "good for kids"..."no"...
We will be taking a cooking class together earlier in the day focused on seafood cuisine so we won't necessarily need seafood again; though sushi would be considered redundant to us.

I don't dine much down in OC, the only places I go to is Blu Fin at Crystal Cove for sushi, Marche Modern, and Mastro's/Ocean Club. I heard good things about the French cuisine at The Cellar. Hopefully our OC PuristS can chime in on a nice place for you guys to celebrate this special occasion.

Marché Moderne is top notch.
A very nice Italian restaurant is Andrea Ristorante at Pelican Hill. Request table with views.
All good suggestions...
I've never dined with Marche Moderne for dinner. It's more of a lunch place for me. But it's a great venue.
I have enjoyed a catered seated dinner at the Tourbillon Boutique in Costa Mesa that I believe came from Marche Moderne.

Although it is very enticing to be able to walk and visit all the watch stores after dinner

What about the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Nigel? I haven't been there for a while but what I do remember is that the food was good and they had a nice pathway around the property. ED-209 has spent a lot of time there, I'll get him to share his experience with us.

. . . my suggestion would be Medii in Anaheim Hills.
I know loads of places in OC, but most aren't quite up to the atmosphere you're looking for. Mitch, on the other hand, probably knows a bunch of them; I'll alert him to your query.

My limited experiences in the OC area is near the Dana Point/Laguna Niguel area that DRMW mentioned. If you're staying at the Ritz Carlton the location is fantastic and overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Service is outstanding, the restaurants are pretty good too. On site they have enoSteak for steaks and Raya for seafood. I've eaten a lot of meals at the restaurants at the Ritz and they're pretty good.
For French, I've taken clients out to Studio Restaurant at the Montage Hotel in Laguna Beach, fantastic views and very romantic. Food is very good but on the pricey side.
Another option that is a little bit outside the box is the Napa Rose at the Grand Californian Hotel part of the Happiest place on earth ...Disneyland

Haven't made a final choice yet; but you have given us plenty to choose from!
As the only respondent from behind the Orange curtain I have several suggestions to
consider.
In south Laguna I would agree that the Studio at the Montage is a consideration - good food but expensive.
Up the coast a bit is a favorite - Tabu - good food and an open kitchen so it is fun to watch the chefs do their thing.
In Laguna I have heard excellent reviews about Broadway.
There is also Las Brisas - very good Mexican food with an unbeatable view of the beach and the ocean. A standard in Laguna.
I agree that Blue Fin is good for sushi
In Newport by Lido Island there is the Cannery - very good food but a bit of a scene and on the loud side.
A good French restaurant on the Balboa Peninsula is Pescadou.
As for Marche Moderne we have had dinner there and had an excellent experience but it is in a shopping mall.
Across form South Coast Plaza is Pino Provence which is quite good.
