I have my PanoMaticLunarXL with me on the Glashutte meeting so i have to compare those two watches.

. . . as the new version appears larger, even though it's nominally smaller than the XL.  The slimmer bezel gets the credit (or approbation, depending on your judgement!) for that effect. G

New one, definitely.  The size is more manageable, but they've made it appear larger than it is by shrinking the bezel.

The change I like best is the new (that is to say, old) markers.  They are less bold, which I think works a little better with the dial.

I'm going to disagree with Art a bit though.  I think the differences are still pretty subtle: important, but subtle.

That make the watch more beautiful! I am a fan of thinner bezels, and the switch from the bold 12 to the markers is also a good move. I would not have noticed the seconds subdail if it were not for Dr. No. It is a little more indented, and I agree with Dr. No that it does make it look better. Overall I think the new version is a hit, I like the white dail and blued hands version. That's the one I have my eye on! Thanks for the comparison pic.

the interwoven circles that were a feature of the original where the sub-second dial and the hour/minute dial overlapped, but I do prefer the new one to the XL. I was never a fan of those bright "12" numbers and the slimmer bezel fits better

I'm new to GO but am craving for a Panomaticlunar.

Have they changed the strap style from a double to a single fold deployant?

I'm just thinking about which strap size I would need - and it is extra-critical with a single fold deployant.

. . . in Glashütte's inventory, although I don't know at this point how widespread it is throughout the line.  

Yes I'm becoming a big fan of GO as they offer great value IMO. The movements are truly beautiful to look at.

I'm torn between three versions of the Panomaticlunar - the silver dial 39mm, the grey dial XL, and the grey dial new version. The problem is that in the UK there are very few GO dealers, so getting a comparison is difficult - but all else being equal I think the new version is just swinging it.  I do like the thick bezel of the old versions though.

As I said before, if the new version comes with a single-fold clasp as standard, I could really do with knowing the strap sizes as it's critical to have the curved clasp in the right place. The nubuck 'gator does look lovely though!

. . . longer straps than normal, at least anecdotally. The standard strap that came with my Senator Sixties was excessively long, and every other G O in my collection also came with standard straps that were just barely usable on my slender wrist; consequently, short straps were sourced for all of them, either from G O, or from a custom strap-maker.

Do you normally take a short strap?

The standard straps seem to fit only 7+ inch wrists, and on a deployant, the standard strap is uncomfortable up until something like 7.5/8 inches.

go for a short strap, as generally I will just fit the shortest hole on the regular strap, so I then end up in the middle of a short strap - which gives a bit of room for adjustment. With a tang buckle it actually doesn't realy matter either way as I can use both, but with a deployant I can end up with the watch riding around or the clasp digging in.

. . . mandatory, given the experience of many G O owners.  It could be that the new single-fold deployant is in precious metal only, to marginally save on material costs, but I don't have all the details just yet.  

I think that's a safe bet!

Got an email back from GO CS saying the new PML does indeed have the single-fold now. Also the strap length is being changed from 82x115 to 75x115.

They didn't give me an indication of the new S and L length but  I would have thought the new S will be 67-odd x 105 and the L 82-odd x 125.

I'm going to need the S with the new clasp.

I think the Old style with the bolder numbers and the thicker bezel make it more versatile as a dress and semi-casual watch.

Not sure when the new one comes out. I know i'm biased since i own an XL but I prefer the less busy second dial on the XL, and am not worried about having to guess the exact time between 27 and 33 minutes. 

I finally got to try the panomaticlunar new 2012 versions!
