Senator Observer
Hi, I am exploring an opportunity to trade a Breguet Type XX Aeronavale Limited Edition and another watch for a GO Senator Observer Steel. I already have a GO PanoLunar XL in my collection, and would be relinquishing my only Breguet. I am compunctious to ask because this is a GO forum, but I would like to solicit unbiased feedback on whether the trade is worth owning the Observer. Thanks.

I liked the Observer the first time i saw it. I like the unfussy, extremely Teutonic design. I like the date-window a lot at 6, in this case.
I would make the trade. The type XX is a fine watch and purely classic... but... there's something more fascinating and a bit braver about the Observer.
I also prefer the size of the GO. I prefer the movement.
I find the Type XX a bit dated... (not to say TOO dated, but a little passe for my taste)

Hi, appreciate the feedback, in response to your questions:
The Breguet is the only thing in my collection that the other party wants which gives me the most trade-in value. Secondly, I just simply like the classy look of the Observer. I don't know movement wise, which is better.

It all dépends on the love you have for your Breguet. Be sure you won't regret it.
The Observer is an interesting and appealing Watch, aesthetically and mechanically.
Each of them is so different!
You won't go wrong with the Observer, but won't you regret the Breguet? It all dépends of your love for this piece.

Thanks for putting it in perspective. Based on your feedback, I realized that I might have a difficult time getting another Breguet limited edition and would definitely regret it if I cannot source another. I can save towards the Observer, and bump that up on my "to buy" list. Appreciate your guidance.
The Observer
I have a Panoreserve 40mm and the Observer. The Observer is one of my favorite watches. It is often in my rotation. I never get tired of it.. Comfortable to wear.. I have considered a Breguet multiple times but have pretty much moved it way down on my list…
These are fundamentally different watches, so any guidance . . .
. . . would be almost purely subjective; in other words, not of much use.
This would've been a far more difficult decision had the Breguet been one of the original models. As a relatively recent limited edition, it's not imbued with the gravitas of an original. Taking that factor into consideration, it's really a matter of which resonates more deeply with you. The Senator Observer straddles the middle ground between complexity and simplicity, with just enough panache to maintain long-term interest objectively once the novelty wears off.
The primary reason I'm drawn to Glashütte Original is that their watches are simultaneously purposeful while being exceptionally well finished. I never tire of my five; they are wonders of design and execution, and continually draw my interest, even after decades of ownership. Ask yourself which of the two you'd rather have after a few years have passed; the answer should provide a bit of the guidance you're looking for.

That's the one that sparked my fascination . . .
. . . with Glashütte Original. I vividly recall seeing it on G O's website in the late spring of '01, and my first encounter in the metal during the Christmas holidays that same year. It took a few years to get my courage up to buy one, and it's been my closest companion ever since.

Curious to know wether you actually acquired the Senator Observer . I bought the Senator Observer in grey lacquered dial with the black crock stripe last year in Germany and I think it is one of the best pieces I own. The simplicity of the dial, the 44 mm size and the subtle texture of the grainy lacquered dial in a gray color simply make it an outstanding watch, which has received many a compliment !

I love the Observer
I have a GO Observer and it is one of my most worn and favorite watches. It is something you can wear with any attire (perhaps not beach or swimming pool). Whether the trade is worth it or not is a personal decision. All i can say is that i have considered some of the Breguet offerings and to date don't own one.
So different
Both of these watches couldn't be more different in look and character and it's hard to pick one over the other simply because I don't feel like they actually compete against each other directly. That said, I'm a big fan of GO for their finishing, simplicity and their understated nature among a lot of other instantly recognizable brands. I'm close to taking posession of my 4th GO, and my AD carries both GO and Breguet. I've tried on and even eyed a number of Breguets, but somehow, when it comes down to making a decision, the GO's always win it for me.
A little biased, I guess, but this is a decision which I feel you already know the answer to, especially after all the insight that has been provided here.
