Best not to try to understand Panerai!
You'll go mad!
Many people are saying that now!

Panerai only has the Luminor and Radiomir cases in current production, and Mr. Bonati told me in my interview with him several years ago that Panerai has so much more to grow using these 2 cases before even having to consider making a new case style. We have 40mm, 42mm, 44mm, 45mm, 47mm, and now the monster Egyptian sized cases.
It is my bet every different combination for "special dial", movement, etc. will eventually be used as time goes on as long as it fits that sized case. It may take 20 years to do so, but eventually it should happen IMO.
As Panerai grows larger, this is what should be expected of them, so don't be surprised to see them using different combinations w/ different cases. So if you like a specific model like the 47mm PAM127, expect a 47mm PAM127 base sometime down the road or maybe even a 44mm 1950 base. If you like the a 44mm PVD or Black Ceramic Luminor, expect a 47mm PVD or Black Ceramic Luminor sometime in the future.
Cheers,
Anthony

Among those that you have listed, because i missed out on the 47mm Luminors of the past ( 127, 203, 217 and of course the elusive 267), I need and WANT a 47mm Luminor, and the Black ceramic 47mm base which i hope it should and will be is so so high on my list.....
Panerai, truly a virus that you are stuck with the rest of your life once you get hook to it!
Damn, so damn good!!!!!!!!!!!
Ciao from someone jumping for joy in Tokyo!

smaller sizes or different metal combination ARE going to happen, so please don't bash Panerai for it. Producing these models is part of growing as a brand.
I don't want to look like I'm defending Panerai and nothing bad gets to spoken about them, but I just don't get it when people post remarks that "Oh my god, what is Panerai doing? They're releasing a 47mm version now." All this is expected of them and should not surprise anyone.
Look at BMW. See the # of different cars they are making today? Take for instance the X line. They had the X5, now then made a smaller X3, and now a sporty X6. It's like in Panerai terms, a 40mm, 44mm, and 47mm model. It's all about expanding the product line, and what BMW is doing is what Panerai will be doing.
Cheers,
Anthony
Unless they go the opposite way, meaning smaller! Lol!
But even then, i don't bash them, i know that they need to expand for the sake of the brand.
As i am a collector of only historically correct sized models ( meaning strictly speaking only 47mm, 52mm and 60mm) I welcome with big arms all the biggies!
For the smallies, well i'd almost never get them!

Is not so much in the watch movement, unlike Rolex and Angelus, but is more in that Minerva used to supply parts that are critical in constructing timing devices that Panerai used to produce. ( I presume these are the bomb timers)
With the exception of 2 pieces that i hardly mention ( because i actually gave them to my mom, who incidentally is becoming quite hooked onto Panerai all because of her son's fault...), yes all my Pannies are 47mm and up.( or will be)
Anything smaller than that, and it really looks weird on me! I guess i'm one of those Asians who look really good in an authentically sized panny!
You should get one of their watches soon bro!
Cheers

The Panerai 47mm watches are a bit large for me. I don't exercise as much as you do and I only have a 6.25 inch wrist.
Gotta lift a lot more weights, what kind of weights does BluNotte use? Probably 10 kilos on each hand to wear a 47mm watch!
This message has been edited by patrick_y on 2009-11-24 13:12:14I hardly exercise at all! And while i don't know how big your wrists are, i can guarantee you that my wrists are VERY small! Even the last hole in a strap usually is too big for me! That's why i have to custom make almost all my straps!
And i definitely don't do weights!
Ciao

Which i highlighted a few posts back.
But indeed, i can only see Panerai doing more and more biggies, like i said if they were to stick to their history strictly, you wouldnt see anything less than 47mm!
oH And the X1 looks so cute!
