At SIHH 2009, the PAM349 was supposed to be the PAM321 on bracelet. Panerai doesn't have this model listed on its website, so does this mean they did not make this PAM349 (PAM321 w/ bracelet) ?
And so, gave this PAM349 designation to this new 47mm Minerva Cali?
But here in Japan, you sure needed to be chosen!

Sharp eyes regarding the 12:00 triangle, but i do believe that it's probably a slight press print mistake.
The actual product should be straight perfect!

Also, I guess Panerai decided to use the PAM349 designation to help with keeping model #'s easy to remember.
The PAM249 is the 47mm stainless steel Cali, so it's easy to remember that the PAM349 is the Ti Minerva version.
There are just so many Panerai model #'s to remember that it helps if model # designations are sort of similar to prior past models.
Cheers,
Anthony
PS. US retail price will be approximately $29k. I've added this into my post above.

You fellows thought i was pulling some turkey's legs?!
And speaking of turkey, it's almost thanksgiving folks!
Let's take the moment and really spend some quality time with our families and loved ones over this season and remember how blessed we all are to have them, and to be able to share and induldge ourselves in this often-times very insane passion of ours!
Cheers and blessings to all!

And while i do agree with your point Nicolas, could i try to persuade you in viewing this as a 21st century prototype?
I mean take for example the case materials, one of the most popular materials for modern Pannies is their titanium ones. And titanium doesnt exists back then historically, primarily because it wasnt exactly known to be utilised just yet.
And if OP was to do everything exactly historically, you would agree that all their models nowadays should exist ONLY in 47mm, not under, which happens to be more than 90% of their products nowadays which i totally disagree.
So to put a small second together with the Cali, it's more of like ushering a new era!
Not to mention the usage of the new Minerva ( the same 16-17 as utilised in the 309/322 , which btw is not NOS), and the numbers this time round are not given the vintage brown patinated look, meaning they should shine that extra little brighter than the 249.

It is a special piece, and you know i love my 249!
I guess for me and Panerai, while I do respect and love their historical authencity very much, i also do not mind and infact welcome with great pleasure these sorta " modern" interpretations of their watches! Because honestly speaking, this is way much better than a Chronograph panerai, than a tourbillon Panerai, and definitely way better than a Minute repeater panerai, all of which they have done since they entered the vendome era, and probably will do soon in the not too distant future.
In their stance to be a manufacture with all the mandatory innovations and complications, this is one i do not agree from the start since p.2002 was launched. I really wished that even if they decided to make their own movement, they would really just stick to time only piece. But you have to remember that not many companies can stay strong and alive with time only pieces, but i personally believe that Panerai could do. I don't know about the other markets of the world, but here in Tokyo only the bases are selling. At most the chronos, nothing else. In fact the Ferrari line sells so badly that they boutique here even took it out of their store, they don't even have 1 FER right now!
Once again mon ami, the movement is NOT NOS! Lol
So a proto with an extremely beautiful finished movement ( remember how in my 1st review of my 309 i called it "Panerai's Lange" ? ), the MOST beautiful IMHO among all movements that ever made it to being encased into a Panerai.
That's alright mon ami, wait till you see live photos of my piece, then let's see if you might be convinced?
If not, then well to each his own as always, but i do believe you will at least "feel" for it!
A beintot

with you Stephen about that point.
For me, I classically prefer 309/322 model that this new one.
The fact to have both is great and I understand you.
Love the Minerva movement +++++++

This baby is a superb beauty to me, not only for the even more unique touch to an already hell of a unique dial, it's in black, which is what i believe all Pams should be in the 1st place!
Cheers
Stephen
Brown is incredibly different.
Both are very nice on a simple dial.
Thanks to Panerai to create these so nice watches.
Enjoy your nice collection Stephen.
Cheers,
patrick
Is that all PAMs are originally black, with some in blue, it's just their exposure to the sun and elements over the years turned them into brown!
So even though nowadays the quality of the dial materials are way much better than back then, i'm sorta applying the same logic in saying that rather than have it brown already, it should be allowed to turn into brown slowly through the years, and if due to the way that i use my watches, and they don'T turn brown, then ALL THE BETTER!
Thanks Patrick, you have a brilliant collection there as well!
Enjoy them like you always do!
Ciao!
Stephen
