First off Thanks to Adrian and the SD crew for organizing such a great event.
We occupied the top floor of Stone Brewery, the place is huge. We walk up the stairs to the 2nd floor and this greeted us.
The place was packed, there were about 50-60 attendees and the watches were all just simply stunning....

The food was great
The endless conversation and camaraderie of the friendly, awesome and fun people who attended is one I will always cherish and remember, met a lot and made a lot of new friends.

A project watch has not a Rolex stamp
When a project watch has a Rolex stamp in the case back, than it is for me a fake watch.
4 months a go I had a man in the shop who bought a watch like this as a real 3646, he paid a lot of money for it.
A lot of people do not see it any more the difference between a real 3646 and a project watch.
So I think that is a dangerous situation.
As I said, not my watch
it has the Rolex markings and clearly the VDB markings from the maker.
All I hear all the time is the story of someone who paid a lot of money for a fake watch, but nobody here is selling them.
Always in defense of others, very very altruistic and honorable, I salute you for that heroic gesture.
What is your stance on say, replica cars?
I understand your position when the intent is to deceive. But unscrupulous people should not be lumped together with people who lack that intent.
Locally, there is, by way of example, an absolutely magnificent Alfa MM replica. Is this a fake or a loving recreation? Like the watch in this thread, this is not trying to be passed off as original, but it is intended to be as faithful as possible. Should it have Alfa Romeo badges?

The Rolex Panerai watches were never offered for the civilian market, are a long time out of production and are available in extremely low quantities at very high prices. It is not surprising at all that lovers of the Rolex Panerai era try to replicate these and in many cases prefer them to the modern day Richemont replicas.
The people who do this for their own pleasure should not be vilified. Though I see where collectors may be concerned specially with so many "vintage" pieces that seem to be assembled from parts.
With all due respect I just don't buy into the story/myth of the buyer who puts down six figures for a homage watch. I'd worry about that as much as i worry about getting anthrax in my mail.

Created as a product of their enthusiasm, not as some money making scheme.
As for the $$$$ fakes, terrible if it happens but also (you would think) fraud like that would be easily redressed...
