Yes, first Panerai...
Anthony, it is my first Paneria and was a little hesitant at first. I have not worn a watch over 42mm in a few years but when I tried it on it felt great and really liked the look of the dial, very clean and definitely a strong Panerai DNA.
I really like the matte black dial, the color combination, clean and balanced....just nice to look at !! And it just looked good on my wrist. Will make a great weekend warrior!
I am not that knowledgeable with Panerai's in general but I am happy with my choice.

What people don't realize is that practically almost everyone can wear a 44mm Panerai
comfortably on the wrist as long as you have a 6.5" wrist. Those who are only used to 38mm and 42mm watches and have large wrists just need the perception that they can't wear large watches in their head changed 
Glad you made the transition to the large watch world, and I hope you'll find many more treasures to wear in the future! You've just opened a large can of worms 
Now to experiment with other infamous large watches such as an Offshore!

Wears pretty well on the wrist...
What I am most surprised at that it is extremely comfortable on the wrist.
I am not sure it is about wrist size as much as personal preference. And I sure love my classics, so with AP I prefer my 39mm Royal Oak but in this crazy hobbie and passion I guess everything is possible. As long as it feels right on your own wrist!! Learned the hard way to always buy what looks good on your own wrist and not what looks good on someone else.
But like you said it is all about perception and that can always change. My perception changed when my father in law bought the Bronzo a few months ago and just recently the Pam 526 Regatta. That caught my attention and I liked the 526 alot ....So here I am...

The 590 would be my choice from the current Panerai collection. Well, except for the special engraved FIRENZE model I just saw at SIHH. Drool. I'm a big fan of engraved Venetian designs. In the interest of full disclosure; I'm a big fan of nice engravings in general - not just the Venetian stuff.
