Imran,
As you described, how can new members get into the hobby?
It's a daunting task in this Instagram, hashtag, world to envisage a 20-year relationship with anyone or anything.
Upfront, before the deep enjoyment can even take hold, how can we expect normal humans (uninfected) to suffer such tribulation that they have to buy 20 watches before being considered good enough to own a desirable watch?
It's difficult for us too as watch buddies, friends, hosts, marshals, etc. to explain to newcomers.
I can understand the difficulties for hand made or hand polished watches like L.U.C, A.L.Sohne and Voutilainen but for an automated factory like Rolex that makes 500,000 to 700,000 watches a year (depending on whom you ask), it's more difficult to understand the rare supply of some models.
What can WE do? Divert them to a different brand so they at least build the joy of watch ownership?
Regards,
MTF
But let's say that you're in USA in a major city (Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Miami, San Francisco), you want to try to support your local community.
You buy a watch or two from the same dealer year after year after year. Say you spend on average $50K a year. You may skip a year but then buy a single $100K piece. So you average a good amount every year. You attend events to support the dealer, you make referrals, etc.
