Modern Rolex
I feel the urge to add a modern Rolex to the lineup.
My favorite is the ceramic Pepsi GMT, but oh my, the prices for these on the secondary market are outrageous! I can’t stomach paying 3x over retail, but the demand must be high enough to justify those prices. It is a stunning piece.
I think my next favorite is the 124060 no-date Submariner. The 41mm size is interesting, but seems to make the watch more proportional almost.
Any thoughts?
I like this advice. If there's one thing that is certain, Rolex will be making Pepsi GMTs for decades to come. They will keep cranking them out and for the most part the watches keep getting better.
I thought they stopped managing lists
At least in this part of the world, been told no list for steel rolexes. Last time I checked they only took names for precious metals only.

I bought this GMT new back in November of 1986. It is no longer the watch I wear the most, but I still love it!
The Pepsi GMT is a great watch. Put your name on the list and wait. Patience is a Virtue!
One of these days, ( maybe years) you are going to get that watch at the right price and you will really enjoy it. Buying at 3x over retail is a hazardous move. Certainly, in time the prices might drop. You may come to resent the timepiece and get no joy from it whatever. Hang in there.

My GMT has a plastic crystal rather than the sapphire crystal. It also has the quick-set date feature and is a really excellent watch.
That's one to get. Here is an early 16750 which was mine.

Pepsi is a nice watch ...
very, very nice in fact. But I must say that like any other modern Rolex it is definitely overhyped. There are plenty of underrated gems available in the market, which I find more interesting these days ... JLC's Duometer travel time comes to mind ...

I would say buy what you like.
If your heart is set on a GMT you should get the GMT. Unfortunately, times have really changed and I think lists don’t mean much. What matters are relationships with your ADs. Buying certain pieces and establishing that you’re a dependable client and not a potential flipper. Personally I love the Pepsi and wear it quite often including today by chance.

I do love the new sub no date. The thinner lugs really make a difference and it wears beautifully. The only reason, possibly a terrible one, why I haven't gotten it is that half of the kids straight out of college at work wear one

The red is actually purple-ish. Much less attractive than the bezel on the vintage ones.
Rolex is an independent so it fits!

Tell you AD what you would like and then go on with your life. You will be surprised one day and get the call.
