Cameron Content

Hello! Been a while....

I wanted to share something I really had not given great thought to.

So, over the last 3 years, I have been blessed to acquire 3 Rolexes.

A Cameron, a Red 43, and a DJ 41.

I love them all.

But I rarely wear my Cameron.

SO today I strapped the beast on.

Guys, it made me really want to reach out to you all, and tell you, this watch is like no other Rolex.

I also own a Kermit. So I think I have a general idea of 'modern' Rolex at least.

The Cameron with the fat thick crystal... and the gradient dial... and frankly the TALL case... (which some may argue is too tall) all result in--for me--a genuinely EXOTIC ROLEX--perhaps and probably unlike any other.

I wanted to SHOUT--this Rolex--is like no other--nd this tall case is elegant--it just works. It's remarkable really. And I say this, experiencing it for the first time in many months. It just works.

And I apologize I am not adding a pic. But as you may know, I am not a big pic guy...  I have not put this Rolex on in a few months--but  when I put it on---especially because of the Fat crystal and obviously THE dreamy gradient dial--I was stopped in my tracks. And I HAD to post about it. This watch is must for anyone considering it! And please forgive me,friends, for my minimal posts these days... just taking it easy and relaxing...  Putting this watch on reminded me of what collecting is all about!

Now, to put things in perspective... I have profoundly enjoyed my DJ 41 Black dial... and profoundly PLUS PLUS enjoyed my Red 43... and for whatever reasons, wore these two over and over... and not worn the Cameron... maybe because the Cameron case is so tall... but I have to say, the tall case is part of the exotic attraction... and I can say this with sobriety.. having owned it for YEARS now... while the DJ 41 and red 43 and even the Kermit are all SO satisfying and give me a feeling of such blessing...

When I put the Cameron on... it blew my mind. It is an entirely different ROLEX. There is simply no Rolex like it. I hope this helps anyone considering it!!!  Every Rolex is wonderful, and each has its special charm. But the Cameron is like no other Rolex. I am so happy and grateful I added it!!!

What a lovely post!

I enjoy reading these kinds of posts.  Where we rediscover a wonderful watch!  Just a joy to read Mostel!  No worries that you're not a pic guy!  I unfortunately don't wear a Cameron, nor own one, because the thing is WAY TOO BIG for my wrists.  Maybe if I have Arnold Schwarzeneggar help me exercise for a few weeks, I might be able to wear one.

I really like the red line Sea Dweller.  But even that is too big.  A well built friend of mine wears it and it looks great on him.  I think his wife bought it for him.  Looks great!

Haha!

Thanks Patrick! I also thought it was FAR too big!! But the composition/balance is what makes it so remarkable. But my real 'share' here is how EXOTICALLY different it is from any other Rolex. And it took not wearing it for a good while to really comprehend it.

Great post!

I agree with everything you say. The Deepsea is a wonderful piece of engineering that is unlike any other Rolex and the James Cameron dial really makes it interesting and fun. I look forward to wearing it each time it turn comes around in my rotation (and I find excuses to wear it out of rotation whenever I can).

it’s not that big, it just takes a bit of time to adjust to it if you have been wearing watches of 40mm or less.

Here is the ‘Beast’ picture I posted a few weeks back. I am sure Thomas will be along soon to post some of his great pictures of this Deepsea, which has actually been near water (unlike mine!);

NICE!!

Thanks for chiming in!

I am in total agreement and share your passion for the James Cameron Deep Sea. At the point that it will be my next Rolex.

The Batman, or another new GMT MASTER Generation with an Oyster bracelet is also on my list.

I know you are very intrigued by it! Hesitate not!

I will, if I have the opportunity.

Same sentiments here, loved it since it was released, had the first generation, which was a bit top heavy, so it left(still hit my head on the wall), but this second generation is here to stay!

I get it!

For much of the past year, I've had a similar response. I have much nicer (vintage) pieces that I enjoy looking at, but the JC is just a really fun piece to wear. I love the slightly domed crystal, the proportions -- it's both overengineered and just right.

You have one??? Wow, am I the last guy here to not own one? :))))

 By: amanico : April 11th, 2022-06:13

Oh yes, and it's extremely comfortable on my scrawny 154mm/6" wrist! ..

I had the black-dial 116660 for about 12 years (2008-2020). I hardly ever wore it. It was comfortable, but I'd gravitate towards pieces like the 16660 Sea-Dweller. Then, in 2020, I sold the 116660 black dial and finally got a 126660 JC.

Delivery was a funny story. My friend, who manages a Rolex boutique, had the 126660 for me, but he wasn't at the boutique for several days because his wife was giving birth. So I went for a run one night and met him in the parking garage of the hospital where his wife had just given birth. He opened the trunk of his car and delivered the 126660 to me that way -- no champagne, no celebration -- just a handoff in a dark parking garage at about 9pm.

My only regret is that I didn't get the JC a year or two earlier! smile

Oh wow, I love these kind of stories. Lucky you!

Hello dear Mostel! Thank you so much for this great post written with much passion. I also own a Cameron which I´m currently wearing... and a Red 43 SD which I have never worn and has all stickers and plastics still on..

 By: Subexplorer : April 11th, 2022-20:47
... Now I would like to know your feelings about the SD 43 in comparison with the Cameron. Doesn´t seem them too close in their measurements, thickness, etc??. .. This doubt motivated me not to wear mine... still!

As it happened to you, I bought them about three years ago but never wore them till I begun wearing the Cameron a couple of months ago.

Of course the SD 43 red is fantastic and the red touch on dial makes it more attractive. But... I´d love to know your feelings as you are wearing both.

Thank you so much in advance!

Best, Abel
