Rolex

The consolidation continues : 114060, my longest watch in service. The one I told myself would be the last to go. I’d been debating this for several months now. At the end of the day, it just wears too bulky and blocky on my 7 inch wrist. Therefore was not being worn, and brought me less joy than my other pieces. It took me years , but I’ve slowly learned and realized I like the *idea* of the Sub more than the watch itself in everyday practice. No regrets and I don’t expect there to be. In the future if I ever decide to add it back, they are plentiful, and it will likely be the 14060. Was time for me to move on… It was part of a multi watch trade . I, too, have watches and other things where I like the idea of owning them more than actually owning, wearing, or using them.  Time gives us the feedback we need to make a decision. Oddly, I have a few things I keep for their beauty alone, despite only occasional use — a couple of 47mm Panerais, two leather jackets, and Leica film cameras.

I get it. With watches I have decided if they’re not being worn, they need to be moved on to someone who can actually wear and enjoy, rather than just sitting neglected in the watch box

We gain a tremendous amount of perspective as time passes, our tastes change, we lock in on what really evokes emotion, etc. In my case: Over the last year, moving pieces can also free up some headspace, slightly less cluttered afterwards. And it feels liberating!

It’s possible some in this hobby acquire “just to have.” No judgment here, fine by me. But me personally, I’m going to wear my watches! 🙂

I am on the cusp of a serious consolidation as well. I simply bought too many watches last year and I feel better about the thought of a smaller collection. Looking forward to you sharing the new arrival. 

Yes, same, not sure exactly what happened last year but it was the most acquisitions in one year since I’ve been in this game for 16 years. Like crazy overdrive. So it’s quite refreshing, this change of pace. After my NWA post, I’ll share a family shot , which is MUCH SMALLER than my line-up at this time last year 🍻

I also like to consolidate at some point and to part with some pieces will be difficult but hope like you that it will be also a multi watch trade then so you know its worth doing.

Initially, the thought of parting was difficult. But when it doesn’t get any wrist time. It confirms the decision was the correct one. It’s only been a day, but so far so good, it was worth it for the new incoming 🙂

Tough day, the 14060M 4 liner might tempt you back, the look of the newer subs but the benefit of the slimmer case for those of us with smaller wrists.

That idea has sort of faded for me over the past year. I even had my sd43 on a possible trade with a 14060 + cash. I eventually backed out of it because i already had a 14060 before and didn’t really gel with it because it wore small on my slightly under 7 inch wrist. It was comfy no doubt but whenever i wore it, it was a bit underwhelming. But I revisited owning jt again with that potential trade with the sd43 because “idea of a sub”.

I think I put that idea of sub ownership to rest when i had lunch with a friend of mine yesterday who was wearing a 5 digit exp2 in black. I had the white one and thought it wore fine but that I just got tired of it after 18 years of ownership. Anyway, I was looking at it from across the table and realized that it wore small for my tastes. It surprised me for the first time because i always thought the exp2 40mm wore ok on my wrist. But yesterday, for the first time, for whatever reason, i thought it wore small and was kind of underwhelming a la 14060.

I think I have reconciled with the “idea” that the sub is not for me. At least I experienced owning it for a short while!

I love the idea of a sub…I have had several, I thought the latest 41mm would be the one…but, I am just not Bonding with it…I love how they look, but, after 3 months…and probably after having so many Rolexes over the years, I am feeling the same, I like the idea of it, but…and I think part of it is the ceramic bezel, and feel on my wrist.  I am finding Omegas seem to suit me better than Rolex, and I may be refocusing on them.
