There is some history with Doxa and HEV development.

 By: Bill : April 22nd, 2013-18:28
Apparently in 1967 Doxa co developed the HEV with Rolex. They worked side in the waters off Geneva. Rolex was the one who put in the application for a patent hence the pat pend. Doxa commercialized the Conquistador 300T with the HEV late 1968 early 1969. They claim it was the first offer to the general public as all the prototypes developed by Rolex went exclusively to commercial divers / dive companies like Comex. The models from rolex included also the 5513 with hev. I have seen or heard diver comments on early prototypes pre the award of the patent which was going to look up. Rolex also enjoyed various military testing with saturation divers but don't have and supporting pictures for HEV testing. I have a modified / dev version of the Doxa from a seaLab III diver original owner it was dated to 1968/69.

Nice connection for me between these dive watch icons.

Military testing.....

Bill.....

"I have seen or heard diver comments on early prototypes pre the award of the patent which was going to look up. Rolex also enjoyed various military testing with saturation divers but don't have and supporting pictures for HEV testing."

I owned a Mk1 a few years ago that I ended up trading for another prototype. The Mk1 came from a former US Marine diver who had documentation from Rolex regarding the testing of the prototype Mk1. There was pictures of the diver and the watch undergoing specific testing. To my knowledge, it is the only evidence so far showing that Rolex supplied watches direct to the military. The documentation also showed Rolex gifting the watch to the diver in recognition for all his comments and work with the watch. As i say, it is the only evidence I have seen showing direct issuance to the military. Would love to see other direct links between prototypes and military for sure.

A most inspiring post about the type dear Baron!!...

... I never paid the deserved attention to this model, though I own one of the last 16600 version of the SD.

Your photographs and your writing reflect the importance of this model within the story of Rolex tool watches, and diving watches in general. It sparks my interest in it!

I nejoyed so much this post, and thank you for sharing your own DR SD through this marvellous photos!
With my best cordial regards, Abel.
