Hello dear Nicolas!! This is a wonderful watch and reading your great post it is easy to understand that it is an exceptional example among the coveted "Comex" SD.

This is one of the dreams of a Rolex collector or diving watch collector, regretably completely out of reach now for most of us. Photographs are superb as always and the additional comments and information from Bill adds a lot of enjoyment to this post. T

Thanks for sharing this exceptional piece and its mission provenance — truly one of the most fascinating COMEX Sea-Dwellers out there

To add some historical and technical context, here are a few additional points that might interest the community, especially those following the evolution of the 16660 COMEX models during the Hydra missions : Technical & Historical Notes (with credit to M

Some informations on the Rolex Sea Dweller 16660 Hydra V.

If we can consider the Rolex Sea Dweller 16660 Comex as a special watch, this one adds something extraordinary special... Here are the informations given to me by the owner of this watch: The 16660 Comex was made from 1981 to 1985 (200 issued). * This mod

That really is a stunning looking vintage Rolex Sea Dweller 16660.

The colour of the hands and hour markers are just such a beautiful colour and the slightly worn but faded bezel insert really adds to its beauty even the Comex on the dial adds so much history to it. But I have no idea what the Hydra V alludes to or means

It was expensive at the time but was really used by professional divers.

Omega spared no expense in selecting Uranus steel for the Ploprof's monobloc case—a high-resistance material first used by COMEX in the construction of their deep-sea vessels. Decades later, Rolex adopted the same steel for its own professional-grade watc

Probably less than a dozen inverted case back watches. These were part of the prototype run for Comex.

I believe this error was with the original run where the casemaker assumed the crown position to be at 3 when in actual fact the Ploprof crown is at 9.

Hello dear Seiji ! Thanks a lot for your clarification. It is always my big pleasure to read and view your wonderful posts with so much information and wonderful watches.

I´m very fond of themes related with history of diving, both scuba and hard hat since I was very very young around 1958 and have read a lot of books and magazine articles about that themes so I learned about the formation of the early military "frogmen" i
