Mappin and Webb have confirmed strap is genuine(rolex) and the watch although first sold as new in 1979,was actually made in 1974. The strap is reasonably rare,and very rare in th UK,being 14k.
Hi guys, Mappin and Webb are official Rolex dealers,or at least were,and certainly was in 1979. The Rolex paperwork has M&P stamped on it. Would an authorised dealer make changes without Rolex approval?.
However if M&W did ,they made more than one. Plus putting the Rolex coronet without Rolex's permission seems strange from such a company. 14k gold watches or jewellery in the UK is highly unusual. Julian you are correct the end pieces fit perfectly so an oddity to say the least.
