A. Lange & Söhne

Aesthetically, I prefer the original

The proportions look and feel better (and better-balanced; I agree with what you noted).

It seems Lange has a tendency to take steps back in the looks department whenever technical advances are made.

Three quickly come to mind: The latest is this Zeitwerk update. Clearly technically and functionally superior to the old one, but not as good looking, front and especially back (I adore the anchor and the visible stopwork that are no more). Second is the Lange 1. Maybe it’s just me but the first-gen movement more beautiful (here’s to that static island). Then there’s the Datograph. The original’s dial to me is perfect. The updated one feels a bit off somehow; it’s probably that power reserve at 6?

If I ever mustered the budget to get those three, I’ll probably go for the updated version only of the L1.
