First Lange

Hi Mads,

I recently went through a similar dilemma, albeit with slightly different models in mind. The Saxonia automatic is a beautiful watch, and is particularly catching in RG with the blued hands. Your sizing is a bit prohibitive when it comes to other members of the Lange family, but here a few others to consider..

1) Richard Lange - 40mm and features the only big sweep-seconds hand in the Lange catologue. It is a secretly complex Lange that also has a wonderful RG/Blued second hand combo. This is at the upper end of your size limitations, however it wears well thanks to the bezel and lugs.

2) Lange 1 - The original icon of the Lange family comes in at 38.5mm and has several dial options when considering the RG metal. This might be the most verstile of the group in terms of casual and dress, however that all comes down to who is wearing it.

3) Saxonia thin - Relatively new to the Lange family, this is a very understated and elegant 2-hand watch which has not appeared very frequently here on the forum yet fits well into the dressy Lange category. I believe this is 40mm as well.

4) 1815 up/down - 39mm and absolutely stunning in RG. There was a model previous to this which was 36mm if I am remembering correctly. This is a worth contender if you are seriously considering other options to the Saxonia automatic.

Something to keep in mind, all of the above watches are manually wound, if you are looking strictly for automatic then the former suggestions may not work. Were this my decision, I would go first to the Lange 1 and follow it up with a Richard Lange.

There are many owners here who may chime in, however as a Lange 1 (and almost RL) owner, I can attest that although they may be larger than your dress watch criteria; both remain quite understated when worn in dressy situations.
