Boutiques have always been at a disadvantage versus AD'S because they don't discount. This is now their chance to complete for our business by getting on a list for a hot watch which in turn makes up for the lack of a discount an AD will give you. It's certainly not a perfect solution but it seems like the best way for the Boutiques to compete with AD's at this point.
So you chose to buy from an AD and get a nice discount or pay full price at a Boutique for a chance at a LE piece one day, seems pretty straightforward to me. Someone who has purchased a number of discounted pieces through an AD over the years is still far ahead assuming they payed a premium for the Oydessus in the secondary.
On another note, its so crazy for me to see these secondary prices of Nautilus, Aquanauts, Royal Oaks, Daytona's, and even the Oydessus. The value of these watches are super inflated right now by the lack of production but I can promise you there is nothing super special about these standard production pieces especially the Nautilus which I now see selling for 100k in the secondary. Within a year of ownership I got bored of mine and traded it in for around 20k in value years ago. In hindsight I wish I still had it along with the Aquanaut and all of the RO's I had because I'd sell them all right now for the ridiculous premiums but really I just can't believe people are paying this much above retail for these rather pedestrian models!
