A 'C' pocket watch!
Thanks for letting me know about this 'c' on the pocket watch movement. Now you've gotten me completely confused !
I thought I had some type of understanding of this, i.e. that these letters were used on wristwatch movements, but that has just been thrown out the window... terrific.
I guess that the only way to answer this is question is probably by asking the curator of the AP museum in person... it's yet another excuse to go finally visit that place!
You're right about me spending too much time with the AP book, I remember having this book for quite a few years, and only after getting to know about lots of other brands did I start realizing the value of AP's and the uniqueness of their work. I the mean time, I've let go of my small collection of VC's (which I absolutely loved, and still hold lots of respect for) and have settled on trying to collect vintage AP's.
What makes collecting AP's fun (especially for pocket watches) are that if you're familiar with the ebauche they utilized, you can spot 'private label' AP's in many places, and most owners unfortunately don't know what they have. It's really a treasure hunt for me
And yes CH Meylan are great watches too, it's a real pity that they didn't survive at least into the 50's... if you know any type of detailed history about them let me know as I'm very familiar with their movements/serial number sequences but almost nothing its going-on's.
Hope you're having a good weekend,
S
Thank you, Sebastian!

What a great piece! I couldn't agree with you more, by the way - vintage AP's are great watches, and always considered part of the Big Three (AP, PP, VC) but relative to their peers in this august group, are screaming values relative to their cost to acqu...
A beauty!

Hi Sebastian Thanks for all the pictures and info. I love that style of lettering on many of the pre-1950s AP movements - do you know what the "B" denoted underneath the movement number? Best regards NickP

Thank you so much for all those observations. Like me you have clearly spent many hours with the AP book looking for connections and patterns and trying to wring out every last drop of history from the images and numbers. Until yesterday I hadn't given mu...

Hi Sebastian I read that C.H. Meylan is the one brand collected by Georges-Henri Meylan, formerly MD of Audemars Piguet: http://www.thepurists.com/watch/features/interviews/MeylanApr04/index.htm . NickP
Well Shame on us !

What an excellent posting, like a breath of fresh air and long overdue - people who ignore vintage AP's, are overlooking one of the best (vintage) brand investment opportunities ever. I have looked at earlier manual models myself from the 40's and will loo...
