What a great piece! I couldn't agree with you more, by the way - vintage AP's are great watches, and always considered part of the Big Three (AP, PP, VC) but relative to their peers in this august group, are screaming values relative to their cost to acquire today.
Like most "great deals" it is only a matter of time before things equilibriate, if one believes in the market theories of economics (of course, the price of the others could come down...
;-)
so if you are interested in what I call "high intrinsic value" with low relative acquisition price=great value for the money, take a serious look at vintage AP's!

and I would venture to say, if " intrinsic value " is your criteria, although to a slightly lesser extent, the same holds true for early Vacheron pieces. In the end, true quality always wins !
