This watch dates from 1998 and was part of the newly introduced Jules Audemars collection which was created to pay tribute to co-founder Jules Audemars. The Grande Sonnerie Carillon is a complication which strikes the hours and quarter hours. In ‘Grande Sonnerie’ mode, the watch strikes the hours and quarter hours. In ‘Petite Sonnerie’ mode, the watch only strikes on the hour. The watch can be silenced so that no sounds are produced. The ‘carillon’ refers to the use of three hammers striking three gongs to produce the quarter tones. At the ten o’clock position, there is a pusher to activate the striking on demand.

The case is 39mm in diameter and is made of 18K yellow gold. The dial is mother-of-pearl. In my opinion, printing “GRANDE SONNERIE CARILLON” on the dial spoils the design of the watch. The minute hand not being long enough to reach the minute markers is also unfortunate. Excepting those factors, a very attractive watch.

Calibre 2891 beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and features two barrels, one which provides 48 hours of power reserve for the time with the other barrel providing 22 hours of power reserve in grande sonnerie mode or 60 hours of power reserve in petite sonnerie mode.
