A long-awaited return to beautiful Italian designs.
I’m admittedly a Porsche/form-follows-function kinda a guy, but this new[er] Ferrari model really grabbed my attention with its beautiful curves and retro design. Seems like Ferrari are doing a ‘Longines’, and digging deep into their back catalog for their new iterations. Not sure what the Ferrari faithful think, but I sure like it.
Wish panerai could do the same with their current offerings

That being said, just the sight of the carbon front lip makes me nervous, even with nose lift it looks like a disaster waiting to happen!

The one difference with the watch world is that it has technically not progressed nearly as much as the automotive world in the last 50 years.

My Longines MN re-issue has better material tech and performance than any Patek or vacheron from 30-40 years ago, and only cost me 1800 USD.
That’s progress from R&D, if you ask me. Meanwhile, the progress from R&D has increased the asking price for new Porsche and Ferrari (also Veblen goods) by almost two fold in the last decade. Hard to call one success and another failure IMHO

There’s a Veblen element in the automotive world as well. But like for like a modern car will have drastically raised its performance and efficiency. Even if one goes down the Porsche route a 25 or 30 year old would hardly know where the equivalent modern...
We probably agree more than we disagree.
But the same can be said about the ruggedness and reliability of a 2025 omega manual chrono caliber compared to a 1970’s lemania.

The only difference being the the watch manufacturers are still trying to flog us the old calibers that car manufacturers could probably no longer get away with 😉
